Financial Analyst II

VAI is currently seeking to hire a Financial Analyst II. As part of our Finance Team, you will be responsible for providing high quality customer service to our portfolio of Research Labs.

Your Key Responsibilities will be Providing the Following Assistance to around 10 Research labs:

  • Resource management assistance/recommendations
  • Accurate and timely production of financial reports.
  • Grant Post-award related tasks must be conducted well and in a timely manner including allowability, allocability and reasonableness assessments of transactions resulting in potential accounting adjustments to our related accruals.
  • Time & effort process support and administration
  • The ability to work collaboratively with professionals from across the organization from groups including but not exclusive to Office of Sponsored Research, Business Development, Human Resources, the Payroll Function, the AP Function, IT, Admin Lab support and the Research group.
  • Effective utilization of the technology which delivers information to customers.
  • Integration into a high-functioning supportive team.

You should possess the following characteristics/traits:

  • An ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
  • A genuine desire to support teammates when opportunities arise.
  • Able to work with Scientists with varying communication styles and levels of experience to assist them with digesting financial information.
  • An attitude which reflects a willingness to learn more when new ideas are presented and a willingness to present new ideas.
  • A general positive "we can do it" attitude when challenges arise.
  • Excitement at new opportunities and responsibilities.

To be a successful member of our team, you will be measured by:

  • Feedback we receive from our Research customers.
  • By how effective the team is in handling the overall responsibilities.
  • Effectiveness of financial reports.
  • Quality and timeliness of post award accounting deliverables including being in full compliance with regulations.

The skills you will be required to have in this role:

  • Bachelor’s degree with a major emphasis in accounting.
  • Relevant Accounting experience (5 years minimum).
  • An understanding of Post-award compliance regulations.
  • Relevant Financial report creation experience - familiarity with how to produce and deliver information.
  • Experience analyzing financial information.
  • A demonstration of experience collaborating effectively with others.

The skills we are willing to train you on:

  • Post award grant administration experience
  • Not for profit Accounting experience
  • Business Intelligence (BI) experience/expertise

COMPENSATION and BENEFITS

All full-time employees of Van Andel Institute are eligible for benefits, effective day one! The salary you can expect in this Financial Analyst II role is based on your experience and skills; however, our target range is $75,000- $90,000.
