Valor Collegiate Academies is Hiring a School Psychologist (2024-2025 SY) Near Nashville, TN

Location: Nashville, Tennessee

Employment Type: This is a full-time, in-person position beginning in July for the upcoming 2024-2025 school year.

Salary: Valor's salary scale for related service providers range between $54,000 to $82,000 and placement on the scale is based on years of professional field experience and educational degree.

About the Role: Valor Collegiate Academies is seeking an experienced and passionate School Psychologist who will serve students at our two middle schools (Valor Flagship & Valor Voyager) and/or high school (Valor College Prep) in the 2024-2025 school year.

The School Psychologist will be responsible for all initial evaluations and reevaluations at both middle schools and the high school. Additionally, they will assist with the RTI process, 504 process, and developing professional learning opportunities for the special education team.

The job of School Psychologist was established for the purpose/s of developing strategies and interventions to assist students in succeeding; measuring and interpreting the intellectual, adaptive, academic, social and emotional development of children; interpreting results of psychological studies; interpreting and applying state and federal codes.

Core Responsibilities Include:

  • Administers standardized and/or supplemental assessments for the purpose of measuring the intellectual, adaptive, academic, social and emotional development of children and/or determining eligibility for services in compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Assesses students' functional capabilities and home and/or classroom environment for the purpose of determining student's functional level and developing recommendations and/or placement.
  • Assists other staff for the purpose of developing and applying student monitoring systems and designing academic and behavioral interventions.
  • Consults/collaborates with all specialists (e.g. autism consultants, behavior specialists, occupational and physical therapist, speech language pathologists, etc.) for the purpose of creating and delivering student supports.
  • Compiles information from a variety of sources (e.g. administrators, teachers, nurse, parents, mental health agencies, other professionals, etc.) for the purpose of producing a comprehensive screening/ evaluation report in compliance with established guidelines.
  • Consults with teachers, parents, and/or other outside personnel or professionals for the purpose of providing requested information, developing plans for services and/or making recommendations.
  • Coordinates with school staff to implement school wide program development and program evaluation (e.g. RTI) for the purpose of ensuring effective programs to assist children who experience physical, mental, social and emotional difficulties.
  • Available to consult with students, parents and guardians for the purpose of enhancing student success in school.
  • Strong understanding in Response to Intervention for the purpose of interpreting the data to intervene, offering interventions and eventually determining eligibility.
  • Helps students for the purpose of creating smooth transitions to and from school and community learning environments, such as residential treatment centers or ALC.
  • Participates in meetings, workshops and seminars as assigned for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information required to perform functions.
  • Promotes school policies and practices for the purpose of ensuring the safety of all students by reducing school violence, bullying and harassment.
  • Researches resources and methods (e.g. intervention, assessment tools and methods, community resources, etc.) for the purpose of determining the appropriate approach for addressing students' functional goals
  • Meets with 504 coordinator to help develop eligibility and 504 service plan

Qualifications: 

  • 2 years of experience as a school psychologist preferred
  • Must have an active license as a School Psychologist with 489 Sch Psy PreK-12 endorsement
  • Master’s degree or higher preferred

Experiences: 

  • Deep understanding of current best practices in school psychology 
  • A demonstrated track record of meeting high expectations and accomplishing goals even in the face of obstacles
  • Experience managing multiple projects and deadlines, with the ability to efficiently and effectively complete tasks
  • A history of working well as part of a team, with a strong “whatever it takes” orientation
