ABOUT THE ROLE
The Estimator is responsible for managing relationships with assigned accounts, communicating customer requirements, and winning new business opportunities. Additionally, the estimator is responsible for ensuring accurate documentation of the bid proposal and effective hand-off to the operations team by effectively communicating with both internal and external business partners.
WHAT YOU’LL DO
- Develops and maintains long-term relationships with new and assigned customers and identifies opportunities to grow current accounts.
- Follows up with General Contractors to determine bid competitiveness, review the scope of work, open opportunities through the sales funnel, and close new business.
- Follows up with customers post project to handle inquiries and serves as a resource. Stays on top of future needs by working on the account management plan and participating in the customer’s planning process.
- Communicates pursued estimating projects to all necessary internal parties in preparation for creating the bid proposal.
- Participates in weekly sales meetings to share schedules, discuss insight on trends and competitive intelligence, follow up on new business opportunities, and assist with creating customer strategies and plans.
- Follows established procedures in the preparation of estimates, work orders, purchase orders and other administrative policies.
- Prints drawing and specifications in preparation for creating estimates for each new job.
- Reviews the tools, equipment, and resources available to Valley Interiors to estimate and execute a job correctly and competitively.
- Utilizes operations as a resource during the bidding process to evaluate the specifications, construction schedule, and labor production for accuracy and timeliness.
- Utilizes vendors as a technical resource for material recommendations and specification clarifications.
- Coordinates the flow of information between the customer and the estimating team as part of the process for clarifying project requirements and addendums, positioning Valley Interiors with the customer, and capturing all relevant details for the development of proposals to include labors, machinery, materials, subcontractors, and all other costs.
- Collaborates with Architects/Engineers to clarify drawings and specifications and make addendums as needed.
- Participates in value engineering process ideation; evaluates material concepts and alternate methods of construction for cost efficiency and quality.
- Thoroughly review all documents for intended scope of work of each trade and clearly identify any omissions, discrepancies or overlaps in scope of work before submission.
- Assimilates the information developed through the bid process into a written proposal for each individual scope for review and approval by the lead estimator.
- Tracks and participates in the review of won/lost ratios for proposals and applying lessons learned to future opportunities.
- Submits approved, unexecuted contracts to accounting for billing and coding.
- Builds out and updates the job book for each new job, effectively documenting and communicating project information to all necessary parties in a timely manner.
- Notifies Operations of awarded projects and participates in project launch meetings to ensure scope of work, specifications, and customer requirements are properly handed off to Operations and all internal check offs completed.
- Collaborates with the Safety department to ensure the accurate completion of all safety forms.
- Establishes job numbers and performs job set-ups by itemizing each successfully won project estimate in an excel spreadsheet and submits information to accounting for processing and billing.
- Acts as a resource for Architects, Engineers, and General Contractors on budget pricing.
- Generates informational spreadsheets to assist in the vendor selection process.
- Sends material lists to vendors to obtain pricing information, provides pricing feedback, and notifies successful contender of job award.
- Requests submittal from chosen vendors and provides notification of assigned project manager for the coordination of services.
WHO YOU ARE
- Experience/Education: Bachelor’s degree in construction management, engineering, or other related field of study. This is an excellent position for a recent graduate! Basic Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
- Reasoning and Development: Ability to carry out instructions furnished in written or oral form; deal with problems involving several concrete variables and excellent grasp of process management.
- Mathematical Development: Ability to add, subtract, and divide all units of measure. Ability to compute percentages, interest, profit, and loss; basic statistics, ability to read and use graphs/charts and general algebra.
- Language Development: Ability to read technical manuals, blueprints, and reports, workplace rules and procedures; speak with poise and confidence, using correct English. Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of the organization.
