JOB DESCRIPTION
The Manager of Language Access Services is the resident UTMB subject matter expert on translating, interpreting, and disability access to improved communication, safety, and satisfaction for Deaf and Limited English Proficient patients. The incumbent oversees the overall approach to Language Access including, but not limited to qualifications and performance of the linguists providing interpreting and translation, as well as the external vendors who supplement staff services.

UTMB Health is looking for a passionate language access champion to lead our thriving and rapidly growing Language Access Program. Our mission is to provide clear and accurate communication to ensure patient safety and satisfaction. In your role as the Language Access Services Manager, you will contribute to this mission by managing a team of experienced interpreters and translators, tracking metrics that guide decisions, and creating evidence-based strategies to further our purpose.
The ideal candidate is fluent in a language other than English (Spanish preferred), has experience with language interpretation in a healthcare setting, and is well-versed in the needs of a limited-English proficient population. They will also ideally be (or have been) a Core Certification Healthcare Interpreter (CoreCHI™) or Certified Healthcare Interpreter (CHI) at some point in their career.
