Manager - White Mesa Travel CenterThe Travel Center Manager position entails comprehensive leadership and operational oversight of a travel center, with a focus on ensuring efficient and profitable operations. Key responsibilities include retail administration and fuel pricing administration; as well as, managing daily activities across various departments such as fuel desk, housekeeping, concession, and customer service, while upholding an excellent customer experience aligned with the mission of courteous and friendly service. This role requires effective operational execution, staff management, budget and financial control, marketing strategy implementation, and adherence to quality, compliance, and safety standards.
The primary objective of this role is to ensure the administration of competitive and consistent fuel pricing and effective retail management while providing dynamic leadership that upholds high standards in customer service and team management. The Manager is also responsible for overseeing financial performance, employing effective marketing strategies, and ensuring compliance with regulatory and company policies. The aim is to lead by example, fostering a positive and collaborative work environment, adapting to the evolving needs of the business, and maintaining operational excellence. The goal is to ensure a seamless, high-quality experience for guests, prioritizing safety, and operational efficiency at the travel center.
QualificationsGeneral:
  • Must be 21 years or older.
  • Must have a valid driver's license.
Education
  • Associate’s degree (or higher) in business administration or a related field preferred.
  • Relevant experience may be substituted for higher education in some cases.
CertificationNo certifications are required for this role.
Experience
  • At least 5 years of experience in retail, food service, or related experience preferred
  • At least 1 year of leadership/supervisory experience preferred.
  • Relevant education may be substituted for experience in some cases.
KnowledgeKnowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Understanding of all travel center operations, including fuel, retail, customer service, etc.
  • Familiarity with applicable tribal, state, and federal regulations as they pertain to travel center operations (e.g., safety, compliance, etc.).
  • Working knowledge of financial and mathematical concepts necessary for accurate budget management and reporting.
  • Knowledge of marketing strategies and techniques, particularly in the context of retail and service industries.
  • Understanding of basic and advanced management concepts.
Skills
  • Strong communicative skills; ability to read, write, and speak English with correct spelling, grammar, syntax, structure, and delivery.
  • Proficient in delivering exceptional customer service both in-person and over the phone, ensuring customer satisfaction and loyalty.

Key Accountabilities
  • Operational Oversight: Oversee daily operations of the travel center, including fuel desk, housekeeping, concession, and general customer service operations. Lead the team in providing an excellent customer experience by meeting and reinforcing the mission of courteous and friendly service.
  • Operational Execution: Must execute fuel administration procedures. Must manage retail, including, but not limited to, sales and product inventory. Oversee and approve the procurement of products for the fuel desk, food court, and any other travel center operations; ensure optimal stock levels, product quality, and general service readiness.
  • Staff/Personnel Management: Responsible for hiring, training, coaching, disciplining, and conducting performance reviews of all travel center employees and managers. Supervise shift managers and coordinate with other managers on maintenance, security, safety, and other issues that may arise.
  • Budget and Financial Management: Responsible for operating the travel center within budgeted requirements. If requested by the supervisor, assist with the preparation and management of the annual operating budget.
  • Marketing, Projections, and Sales: Seek out and execute strategies to meet or exceed sales targets. Employ marketing strategies and promotions to improve customer footfall and travel center “image”.
  • Quality, Compliance, and Safety: Enforce all regulatory and company policies. Maintain high standards of service, and ensure the travel center meets “secret shopper” program standards. Develop, update, and train staff in emergency response procedures, including handling fuel spills and other potential hazards. Regularly review and ensure the operational readiness of emergency equipment and protocols.
  • Communication and Planning: Maintain strong communication channels with the general manager. Prepare and suggest organizational improvement initiatives to upper management when expedient.

The property currently has 650 slots, 7 tables, 90 hotel rooms, 80 R.V. spaces, 2 travel centers, and a team-member population of 397.
