Utah Department of Human Services is Hiring a Human Resources Specialist - DGO and UDOT Near Salt Lake, UT

Job Description

The Division of Human Resource Management is looking for passionate Human Resources Specialists to provide high quality HR consultation and services to State of Utah employees and supervisors.

If you have the emotional intelligence necessary to handle the tough parts of HR, the ability to build strong relationships with every level of employee, excellent attention to detail, and a strong desire to contribute to cultures where all employees thrive, this could be the job for you! Excellent verbal and written communication skills are a must.

These positions may be considered for flexible / hybrid telework, with two days a week in office required . All work must be performed within Utah.

Please note, a position's eligibility for telework is established by agency management and is subject to change at their discretion at any time and for any reason.

Taylorsville State Office Building, 4315 South 2700 West, Taylorsville, UT

Utah Department of Transportation, 4501 South 2700 West, Taylorsville, UT

Example of Duties

The Human Resources Specialist's main duties and responsibilities include :

Consulting with assigned agency leadership regarding a wide array of human resource issues to promote the agency’s culture and mission

Assisting and coaching supervisors and managers a variety of employee related issues, including employee performance improvement, disciplinary actions, or terminations.

Coordinating and processing the Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA), Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), long-term disability (LTD), and workers compensation claims.

Conducting and managing investigations related to complaints, misconduct, harassment, discrimination, etc.

Providing HR related training to agency staff and management.

Ensuring compliance with applicable federal and / or state laws, regulations, and / or agency rules, standards, and guidelines, etc.

Typical Qualifications

The Ideal Candidate possesses the following :

Professional human resource experience or an equivalent combination of higher education and / or professional human resource experience.

The ability to write and edit professional communication.

Knowledge and experience with FMLA, ADA, and workers compensation

Excellent customer service / interpersonal skills and conflict resolution skills.

The ability to manage a high volume of work coming from multiple sources.

Organized and detail oriented approach to work.

An influential impact on and the ability to work well with others.

Flexible and adaptable approach to work with a willingness and desire to learn.

Candidates with related skills and experience are encouraged to apply.

Preference may be given to current DHRM employees.

NOTE : Division of Human Resource Management rules regarding promotions and transfers apply to current state employees.

  • Risks found in the typical office setting, which is adequately lighted, heated and ventilated, e.g., safe use of office equipment, avoiding trips and falls, observing fire regulations, etc.
  • Typically, the employee may sit comfortably to perform the work; however, there may be some walking; standing; bending;

carrying light items; driving an automobile, etc. Special physical demands are not required to perform the work.
