USS Missouri Memorial Association is Hiring a Director of Visitor Operations Near Honolulu, HI

Position Overview: Are you passionate about history, education, and providing unforgettable visitor experiences? If so, we have an exciting opportunity for you to join our team as the Director of Visitor Operations. In this role, you will play a pivotal role in developing and directing our visitor operations and tours department at one of Hawaii's most iconic attractions. Your responsibilities will extend to coordinating English, Japanese, Chinese, and Korean tour operations, ensuring they align with our organization's mission and goals. Additionally, you will spearhead the planning, implementation, and ongoing development of our educational programs tailored to State and Private School curricular standards, utilizing the rich historical resources of the USS Missouri and its facilities.

Our goal is to provide engaging and educational experiences for visitors of all ages from around the world, showcasing the rich history and mighty significance of the USS Missouri. We believe in the power of history to inspire and educate and are passionate about sharing this remarkable piece of history with future generations. We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Director of Visitor Operations to join our team. As the Director of Visitor Operations, you will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of our company's operations and ensuring the smooth and efficient functioning of our organization. This is a senior leadership position that requires strong management, leadership, and strategic planning skills.

Duties:
Direct all the tour programs to provide visitors with tour options that are fun, informative, accurate, educational, consistent, and profitable

· Develop and direct departmental budget and track expenses

· Ensure that basic tour guide training materials are current and available

· Direct tour guide training programs

· Ensure timely hiring and adequate staffing according to budgetary constraints.

· Develop volunteer tour guide programs

· Maintain tour routes to maximize visitor flow

· Set ship's opening and closing procedures for Tour Dept

· Coordinate with other departments for special tours, group tours, and VIP tours

· Oversee development of Japanese tour program

· Direct development of foreign language materials

· Develop Specialty Tours, i.e., Captain’s Tour, Chief Engineer’s Tour, etc.

· Coordinate with Marketing Dept to provide appropriate signage to support tour programs and to ensure consistent look and presentation

· Coordinate with Marketing Dept to ensure that the visitor experience is aligned with product descriptions

· Coordinate with Curator to develop onboard displays

· Develop transportation story line scripts

· Coordinate shuttle driver venue training as required

· EDUCATION

· Manage and implement all educational activities related to the USS Missouri.

· Develop and direct departmental budget and track expenses

· Work with the Hawaii Department of Education to develop an educational program that works in conjunction with public and private elementary and secondary schools’ curricular standards in the core subjects of history, social studies, math, careers, and technology.

· Develop and implement new programs for use at the collegiate and educator level (teacher workshop and in-service training).

· Market on-site educational programs to public and private schools. Develop a positive ongoing relationship with all schools.

· Work with teachers, principals, district staff, and internal staff to develop a meaningful educational experience.

· Research and develop the best teaching methodology for the students using the ship's facilities.

· Facilitate student educational experiences for students on the ship.

· Attend meetings with Hawaii Department of Education and private school administrators, teachers, and other stakeholders to plan, monitor and adjust educational program activities.

· Coordinate tours of the ship for students, faculty, and parents.

· Conduct community presentations throughout the state.

· Hire, train, supervise, and conduct evaluations on subordinate staff.

· Implement distance learning program.

· Forge cooperative relationships with other area cultural and educational institutions.

· Provides support to the Development Department in regard to educational grant writing.

· Performs other duties as assigned.

Working Conditions: Position works inside a business office located inside the Battleship with moderate noise such as computers, phones, and printers. Position spends a significant amount of time outdoors and on the external areas of the ship, involving outdoor weather conditions that may be hot, humid, rainy, or windy. A significant amount of time is spent inside the ship for tour route planning and evaluation, tours, and meetings while abiding by organizational access, safety and EPA restrictions at all times.

Schedule: Normally 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., five days a week, holidays, evenings, and weekends as needed

Education, Experience and Skill requirements: Minimum: Bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university; three years of management experience; and one to two years related experience and/or training.

Must be proficient in the use of Microsoft Word and Excel, and Access a plus. Email and Website experience needed and be comfortable with video teleconferencing technology.

Must have the ability to read, analyze, and interpret financial reports and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers or members of the business community. Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups and/or boards of directors.

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs

Must have the ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical information.

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to effectively provide the CEO, COO, co-workers and subordinates necessary verbal and written communication. Must set an example with an outgoing personality, team player skills, and excellent customer service. Must have ability to relate to persons of all ages and diverse backgrounds, skills, and abilities. Personable and able to effectively present information to strangers regarding the Battleship Missouri as well as listen effectively.

Current driver's license and own transportation to perform errands and attend off-site meetings.Manage and oversee all operational activities of the company
- Develop and implement operational policies and procedures
- Lead and motivate a team of employees to achieve operational goals
- Collaborate with other departments to ensure effective communication and coordination
- Identify areas for process improvement and implement strategies to increase efficiency
- Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) to track the progress of operational goals
- Develop and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including clients, suppliers, and partners
- Oversee budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning for operations
- Ensure compliance with industry regulations and standards

Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Business Administration or a related field (Master's degree preferred)
- Proven experience in operations management or a similar role
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate and inspire a team
- Excellent business development and project management skills
- Demonstrated experience in senior leadership positions
- Ability to analyze data, identify trends, and make data-driven decisions
- Proficiency in strategic planning and implementation
- Strong negotiation skills
