US Federal Aviation Administration is Hiring an Aviation Safety Assistant (Office Automation) Near Des Plaines, IL

Duties

Operates as an Aviation Safety Assistant in a Flight Standards field office. Provides administrative and semi- technical related support to the supervisor, or manager, Aviation Safety Inspectors, and Administrative Officer by utilizing advanced automation system tools relevant in the Safety Assurance System environment which includes, but is not limited to obtaining background data, preparing reports; reviewing applications, interviewing applicants, processing certificates, and maintaining technical and administrative files.

  • Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959.
  • Ingrade/downgrade applications will be accepted.
  • Must type 40 wpm based on a 5 minute sample with 3 or fewer errors.

Qualifications

To qualify for the FG-6 level, you must demonstrate in your application that you possess at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the FV-D, FG/GS-5 level. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position. Specialized experience may include but not limited to preparing reports (such as accident, violation, recurring and special reports) by researching, requesting information, creating files, preparing control sheets, copying and distributing preliminary and final report documents, and reviewing for accuracy and completeness. Maintaining individual logs, preparing special and recurring reports, interacting with offices and the public, assisting visitors and providing information.

To qualify for the FG-7 level, you must demonstrate in your application that you possess at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the FV-E, FG/GS-6 level. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position. Specialized experience may include but not limited to knowledge of FAR, FAA directives, and various agency and regional policies and procedures governing technical program responsibilities for aviation safety such as compliance and enforcement, aircraft accidents and incidents, written test program, and operator certifications. Has knowledge necessary to interview applicants and determine qualifications for non-complex certificates. Knowledge of clerical and administrative procedures used by the office to maintain the office files, reports, logs, and records including SAS data and the Enhanced Flight Standards Automated System (eFSAS).
