Duties

This position is located under the Office of Management Financial Management Division in Martinsburg, West Virginia and Washington, District of Columbia.

The primary purpose of this position is to serves as a financial analyst in the Payment Processing Section or the Revenue Management Section.

As a Financial Analyst, GS-0501-7/9, your typical work assignments may include:

  • Performs in-depth analyses on differences in accounting data and trends in revenue collections related to taxes and fees.
  • Monitors and analyzes trends in various overpayment refunds, evaluate transactions to correct erroneous payments, within scope of applicable regulations.
  • Knowledge of financial data entry and transaction codes to properly identify and ensure correct coding for entry into the financial accounting system.
  • Performs financial analysis and evaluations of assigned aspects of the program and may participate as a member on working groups.
Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as your training and experience progresses.

Qualifications

To qualify for 7/9, candidates must also have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level GS-0501-5/7.

This is a non-bargaining unit position.

Specialized experience is demonstrated experience, which has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities to perform successfully the duties of this position. Experience must be in the normal line of progression or must be related to the work of the position advertised and must be reflected in resume. Examples of specialized experience include:

GS-7/9 - You qualify if you possess one year of specialized experience and/ or education equivalent to the GS-5/7 grade level in the Federal, State, or Local government or equivalent public or private sector experience, performing the following duties:

  • Utilize automated financial systems for installation and maintenance; AND
  • Modify and apply available guidelines for specific work assignments; AND
  • Analyze and validate accounting transactions to ensure the accuracy and completeness of accounting data; AND
  • Create financial management reports to review financial data, records and standards.
Education: 1 full year of graduate level education ORsuperior academic achievement.

GS-9 - You qualify if you possess one year of specialized experience, equivalent to the GS-07 grade level in the Federal, State, or Local government or equivalent public or private sector experience, performing the following duties:

  • Assisting in the development and issuance of training instructions to provide users answers and resolve problems; AND
  • Review accounting, budget and other management data in conjunction with higher level accounts; AND
  • Provides input, modifies accounting, and general ledger procedures, operating instructions, and working guides for assigned activities; AND
  • Develop and maintain journal entries, operating instructions, and working guides for assigned activities.
OR
  • Education: Completed a master's degree or equivalent graduate degree.

OR

  • Completed 2 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree orLL.B. or J.D., if related.
