Us Army National Guard Units is Hiring a Social Worker (Title 5) (Permanent) Near Richmond, VA

Duties

As a Social Worker (Title 5), GS-0185-12, you will perform the below duties:
1. Supports the psychological health team in developing and executing an annual BH program strategy. Determines program priorities, gaps, and means to meet annual goals. Supports the development and annual review of written standard operating procedures governing the BH system of care. Responsible for psychological health promotion, implementation of BH programs, and evaluation activities. Formulates strategies to generate interest, acceptance, and participation by organizational partners, community partners, and NG Soldiers and family members. Serves as primary advisor on methods to successfully reduce stigma and market psychological health programs.
2. Develops relationships with military and community groups to enhance prevention efforts and expand available BH resources. Builds networking processes. Builds a community provider directory. Develops an extensive array of BH resources, associations, and community partnerships available to support NG soldiers and families.
3. Coordinates and implements prevention and education programs. Conducts comprehensive needs assessments and Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunity, and Threat (SWOT) analyses that form the basis for program development activities.
4. Conducts clinical screening, evaluation, and consultation services. Applies professional knowledge of the principles, theories, procedures, and practices of social work to clinical duties in accordance with applicable DoD guidelines. Screens records/personnel and makes administrative recommendations for security clearances and Positions of Significant Trust and Authority (POSTA). Conducts annual BH screenings to determine medical readiness. Conducts pre-mobilization and post-mobilization screenings. Provides BH guidance and consultation to soldiers, leaders, and military/community partners. Completes comprehensive assessments under guidelines of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM) of the American Psychiatric Association. As appropriate, facilitates comprehensive needs assessment including biopsychosocial history. Uses and interprets various psychological assessment measures. Prepares written evaluation reports with clinical impressions. Determines readiness and completes profiles in accordance with Army Regulation 40-501.
5. Builds efficient processes to manage BH referrals and case management services.
6. Conducts population-based behavioral health surveillance to examine trends and further develop targeted prevention and mitigation strategies. Participates with the State Surgeon's team to monitor BH program metrics. Develops and monitors provider utilization metrics, service member experience data, and psychological health outcomes. Responsible to collect population-level data including distribution of service members by demographics (age, gender/sex, education level, race/ethnicity), service characteristics (time in service, rank, unit mission), and deployment characteristics (frequency and duration of deployments, combat exposure). Responsible to collect process and utilization outcome data including number of contacts, number of referrals, number of briefings, primary presenting problems, and client demographics. Responsible to track frequency of mental health encounters, positive mental health screen on health assessments, interest in mental health assistance, mandated reporting situations, and suicide mitigations. Ensures that program metrics comply with applicable DOD policies, Army Regulations, National Guard guidance, policy letters, and other official guidance.
7. Provides consultation, education, and training to military and nonĀ¬-military health care professionals concerning behavioral health policy, psychological fitness, and primary and secondary prevention programs. Aims to expand competencies of NG providers. Trains providers on psychological health matters, resources, and interventions to increase wellness and psychological readiness. Evaluates training opportunities and professional development activities for state medical and BH teams. Provides timely, effective, and accurate training to medical and BH personnel. Continues professional development and maintains awareness of cutting edge modalities and techniques of prevention, problem resolution, and care in psychological health. Participates in continuing education and training, conferences, professional organizations or societies, and independent study.
8. Performs other duties as assigned.

GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Applicant must have experience providing primary, secondary, and tertiary prevention programs, specialty training for NG health care professionals and other personnel on issues related to the psychological health of Guardsmen and their families, and multi-level community organization, collaboration, and enhancement
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicant must have at least 36 months of specialized experience, equivalent to at least the GS-11 level, or equivalent pay band in other pay systems in the Federal government? This experience may also have been obtained in the private sector but must demonstrate that it is comparable to the GS grade indicated. This experience must include activities such as:
  • Experience in coordinating with the National Guard community serving military and non-military agencies to promote and achieve timely information exchange, coordinate collaborative prevention efforts, and establish and maintain an extensive array of resources, associations, and community partnerships.
  • Experience in conducting assessments, intake evaluations, and psycho-diagnostic assessments.
  • Experience in developing coordinated plans for reducing risk factors for individuals and within the community,
  • Experience in prevention, problem resolution, and care in psychological health matters.
