Urology Surgery Center, Nashville TN has an immediate need for a Perioperative Registered Nurse. The OR Registered Nurse, is responsible for therapeutic, effective patient / family-center care according to physician order, in compliance with the philosophy of the Center, standards of practice and regulations of governing agencies.

In accordance with the Mission and Vision of the Urology Surgery Center, L.P., Center personnel provide services in an atmosphere sensitive to each person's physical, emotional and social needs with respect to the beliefs and values of co-workers, patients and their families.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Graduate of accredited school of Registered Nursing.
• Two years related nursing experience desired.
• CNOR Certification Preferred.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Functions in variety of roles in the OR suite, including assisting, scrubbing, circulating, and the pre-op and post-op care of patients.
• Utilizes specialized nursing knowledge, nursing process and discriminative judgment while giving direct or indirect care.
• Recognizes legal and policy limits of individual practice.
• Recognizes the importance of teamwork.
• Respects patients right to privacy, dignity, and confidentiality.
• Assists anesthesia personnel with peri-operative care of patient as needed.
• Accurately collects and labels lab specimens for transport to lab.
• Assures sponge, needle and instrument count conducted according to Center policy.
• Continuously monitors patient care activities for breaks in aseptic technique.
• Assures proper positioning of patient for procedure.
• Provides a safe, efficient and supportive patient atmosphere.
• Assess physical and emotional needs of patients and implements appropriate nursing interventions.
• Monitors the activities of non-professional nursing personnel.
• Is cognizant of health care cost.
• Maintains accurate records of controlled substances.
• Attends required in-service education, meetings and participates in committees as requested.
• Is knowledgeable of and in compliance with administrative, medical and nursing policies and procedures.
• Reports and completes appropriate forms for incident to patient, visitors, and employees.
• Reports to supervisor needed repairs of maintenance of equipment or building. In the absence of the supervisor, notifies the appropriate repair services and follows up to be certain the problem is resolved.
• Is responsible for organization and neatness of work area.
• Responsible for assisting in turnover of OR suites and other related Housekeeping/Infection control tasks.
• Documents physicians’ orders.
• Is knowledgeable and responsive to emergency situations (i.e., cardiac arrest, malignant hyperthermia, drug reaction, fire, etc.).
• Assists in the maintenance of the system for defining Center’s supply/stock needs, utilizing par level method.
• Assists in maintaining central supply in an orderly fashion with an adequate inventory of sterile supplies and instruments.
• Cleans, correctly sorts and identifies, wraps and sterilizes all necessary instruments, supplies and equipment.
• Participates in Center-sponsored community events/marketing activities as requested.
• Performs other duties assigned.
• Demonstrates understanding of personal responsibility and activities related to the OSHA programs including hazardous materials and bloodborne pathogens.
• Directly responsible for identifying and reporting adverse or dangerous situations without fear of reprisal.
