Urban League of Union County, Inc. is Hiring a Workforce Development Specialist Near Elizabeth, NJ

Summary

The Workforce Development Specialist promotes the successful employment of clients through intensive job readiness training, job search assistance and placement, retention activities and other career enhancing services. The Specialist will work closely with other Urban League of Union County program staff to identify clients who need employment services and develop individualized plans for participants by assessing their skills, education, work history, and transportation needs.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute comprehensive workforce development programs.
  • Collaborate with educational institutions, employers, and community organizations to identify training needs.
  • Assess individual and group skill gaps and design tailored training initiatives.
  • Monitor program effectiveness and adjust strategies based on feedback and outcomes.
  • Provide career counseling and support to participants.
  • Foster partnerships with local businesses to create employment opportunities.
  • Stay current on industry trends, labor market dynamics, and training methodologies.
  • Assist participants with resume and cover letter development.
  • Maintain daily electronic files/records, logs and tracking to ensure current and organized activity for timely follow-up of direct participant services
  • Provide retention support services to participants and employers.
  • Provide intervention, when necessary and appropriate, to prevent a participant’s job loss or increase chances of promotion.
  • Provide appropriate program reports in a timely manner.
  • Represent the Urban League at local community, civic, and social organizations events.
  • Perform other agency-related projects and duties as assigned.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (e.g., Human Resources, Education, Business).
  • 3-5 years of proven experience in workforce development, training, or related roles.
  • Familiarity with adult learning principles and instructional design.
  • Experience in supervision, teaching, training and/or development

Qualifications

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to analyze workforce trends and tailor programs accordingly.
  • Experience in project management and program evaluation.
  • Knowledge of government workforce development initiatives and regulations, specifically within Union County.
  • Flexibility to adapt to changing needs and priorities.
  • Collaborative mindset with the ability to build and maintain partnerships.
  • Ability to work effectively with people of diverse educational and cultural backgrounds, from previously incarcerated to public officials.
  • Knowledge of effective procedures in locating job sites and placing applicants in jobs.
  • Ability to maintain and produce accurate, timely records and reports.
  • Must be able to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
  • Highly motivated self-starter with strong project management, facilitation, and organizational skills.
  • Possession of or ability to obtain a valid Driver’s License and have own transportation.
  • Availability to work some evenings, Saturdays, and maintain a flexible work schedule.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $45,000.00 - $50,000.00 per year
