Open Position: Assistant to the Treasurer - Accounts Payable/Accounts Receivable

Location: Upper Valley Career Center - Administration Building

General Job Description:

Responsible for assisting the Treasurer/CFO with overseeing the financial operations of the district. The primary responsibilities will include, but are not limited to: accounts payable, accounts receivable, and student activities.

Responsibilities:

Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

  • Performs accounts payable/receivable functions. Must follow the Uniform School Accounting System (USAS).

  • Processes weekly check run.

  • Maintains vendors tax identification file. Prepares 1099 forms.

  • Maintains student activity accounts.

  • Balances ledgers. Reconciles monthly statements. Analyzes account activities.

  • Assembles data for analysis and/or forecasting and GAAP preparation.

  • Assists with compiling data needed for Audit. 

  • Oversees the district's credit card and P-card program.

  • Assists the Treasurer with the district’s records retention schedule.

  • Follows established office protocols to ensure the accurate/timely recording and preservation of documents. Maintains a systematic filing system that supports the efficient retrieval of records.

  • Carries out assignments in a professional manner and maintains a high standard of due professional care in all work performed.

  • Fulfills the Ohio Department of Education requirements for maintaining a Treasurer’s license. 

  • Assumes any other duties as assigned by the Treasurer. 


Qualifications:

  • High School diploma.

  • Post-Secondary business school training or equivalent accounting work experience is desirable.

  • Experience with governmental fiscal operating procedure.

  • Knowledge of State Auditor’s Office Uniform School Accounting Systems.

  • Displays flexibility, reliability, self-discipline, and a willingness to take on challenging tasks.

  • Exhibits effective organizational, time-management, and resourceful problem-solving skills.

  • Shows evidence of core computer competencies in Microsoft Office Suite and Google Workspace. 

  • Show the ability to work independently or within a team.

  • Embodies high ethical standards and integrity. Accepts responsibility for decisions and conduct. 

  • Meets all mandated health screening requirements.

  • Maintains a record free of criminal violations that would prohibit public school employment. Able to successfully pass a BCI/FBI background check.

  • Maintains compliance with drug-free workplace rules, Board policies, and other applicable procedures/guidelines.

Salary:

Appropriate placement on the District Office Professionals Salary Schedule to be determined by education and experience. Salary will range from $42,785 (Class III, Step 0) to $53,270 (Class III, Step 5). Base contract is 260 days. Minimum workday is 8 hours per day exclusive of a lunch break . One-year contract with opportunity for renewal.

Medical, dental, vision, and life insurance offered. Some benefits are a shared cost between the employee and the Board of Education.

Performance Evaluation:

Job performance is evaluated according to policy provisions and contractual agreements adopted by the Upper Valley Career Center.

The Upper Valley Career Center provides career and technical education for high school students and post-secondary education for adults. Over 800 high school juniors and seniors are gaining skills in 27 career fields. High school students earn a diploma from their home/associate school.
