JOB SUMMARY
Provide comprehensive assessment, diagnostic and rehabilitative services for all area of auditory, vestibular, and related disorders. Provide supervision of graduate students and clinical fellows engaged in similar work. Ensure adherence to Hospitals and departmental policies and procedures. Patient care assignment may include neonate, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric age groups.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Essential and other responsibilities and duties may include but are not limited to the following:
AUDITORY EVALUATIONS - Provide direct clinical services to patients including standard hearing evaluations, electrophysiologic testing, otoacoustic emission testing and electronystagmography testing
ASSESSMENT - Provide patient care services including assessment, diagnosis, prevention, identification, consultation, habilitation, rehabilitation, instruction, counseling and prognostication
AUDITORY SERVICES - Provide auditory services including hearing aid and assistive listening device evaluations and dispensing; initiate appropriate follow-up and referral to other healthcare professionals
HEARING IMPAIRMENT - Supervise programs identifying cases of hearing impairment including newborn hearing screens
POLICIES AND PROCEDURES - Follow established departmental policies, procedures, and objectives, continuous quality improvement objectives, and safety, environmental, and/or infection control standards
SUPERVISION - Supervise graduate students, clinical fellows and/or paraprofessionals as delegated
EDUCATION AND LIAISON - Provide in-services and serve as a liaison to other health care providers and related professionals as assigned
EQUIPMENT AND RECORDS - Provide support and assistance in the areas of equipment calibration, maintenance and supply; monitor and maintain departmental data and records
CUSTOMER/STAFF RELATIONS - Establish and maintain good rapport and effective working relationships with patients, visitors, physicians and Hospital employees
PATIENT SAFETY 1 - Follow patient safety-related policies, procedures and protocols
PATIENT SAFETY 2 - Demonstrate proactive approach to patient safety by seeking opportunities to improve patient safety through questioning of current policies and processes
PATIENT SAFETY 3 - Identify and report/correct environmental conditions and/or situations that may put a patient at undue risk
PATIENT SAFETY 4 - Report potential or actual patient safety concerns, medical errors and/or near misses in a timely manner
PATIENT SAFETY 5 - Encourage patients to actively participate in their own care by asking questions and reporting treatment or situations that they don't understand or may "not seem right"
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION: Master's Degree in related discipline
EXPERIENCE: No minimum experience required
LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS:
Licensed to practice Audiology and dispense hearing aids in State of New Mexico or obtain within 60 days of hire
CPR Certification for Healthcare/BLS Providers or for Professional Rescuers or must obtain within 30 calendar days of date of position
TESTING REQUIREMENTS:
Tuberculosis testing is completed upon hire and additionally as required

Bilingual English/Spanish
Bilingual English/Keres, Tewa, Tiwa, Towa, Zuni, or Navajo Bilingual English/American Sign Language

May be credentialed by UNMH Credentialing Committee

60 days written notice required for separation in order to be eligible for rehire
PHYSICAL CONDITIONS:
Light Work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly (Constantly: activity or condition exists 2/3 or more of the time) to move objects. Physical demand requirements are in excess of those for Sedentary Work. May require walking or standing to a significant degree or requires sitting most of the time but entails pushing and/or pulling of arm or leg controls; and/or may require working at a production rate pace entailing the constant pushing and/or pulling of materials even though the weight of materials is negligible.
