Building Service Supervisor

Department of Campus Recreation

Job Summary
To oversee the daily operations of Building Service work; supervising employees; management of work performance, staff schedules; performance evaluations; discipline; management of the ARC, CRCE, Ice Arena, Grounds, and Bike Center; develop, implement, and supervise cleaning, floor treatments, window washing, and elevator operation. Working under the supervision of the Associate Director of Operations, incumbent will oversee ordering of supplies, inventory, equipment maintenance and required administrative duties charged with this position.
Duties & Responsibilities
  • Building Operations:
    • Oversee the work of personnel assigned to building service activities and prepares daily worksheets that outline job stations and tasks to be performed by each employee, schedules personnel, and monitors operational needs to meet building service functions, modifying assignments when necessary.
    • Determine staffing needs, goals, and objectives for all lower lever Building Service Workers.
    • Develop and execute efficient cleaning programs; trains and instructs employees in cleaning, operating equipment and techniques, and procedures.
    • Assists in the development of technical standards for determining cleaning procedures and frequency of treatment, use, and upkeep, and assists in the testing and evaluation of new products and equipment.
    • Inspects the work of assigned personnel, ensure satisfactory performance and safety standards are met; evaluates job assignment and prepares reports.
    • Conduct inventory of supplies, computes monthly consumption of goods, and estimates future needs; recommends procurement of equipment and supplies.
  • Approves bi-weekly timesheets, sick vacation leaves; maintains attendance records.
  • Determines and employs corrective measures to achieve and maintain satisfactory performance and workplace behavior.
  • Responsible for conducting performance evaluations.
  • Collaborate with Associate Director of Operations to recommend employee promotional opportunities.
  • Train and evaluate Building Service Worker Interns for program completion and transition to status employees.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
1. High school graduation or equivalent.
2. Three (3) years (36 months) of experience in building service operations or related work.
3. Two (2) years (24 months) in building custodial supervisory capacity.

Preferred Qualifications
Experience performing building service supervision in a university setting; supervisory experience of multiple employees

  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to bend, stretch, twist, reach, and stand for long periods of time.
  • Ability to perform general physical activities that require considerable use of hands, arms, legs, and moving whole body, such as climbing, lifting, walking, stooping, handling, positioning and moving materials, and manipulating items.
  • Ability to tolerate exposure to temperature extremes.

Appointment Information
This is a 100% full-time Civil Service 3445 - Building Service Supervisor position, appointed on a 12-month basis. The expected start date is as soon as possible after 3/5/2023. Salary is commensurate with experience.
