The successful candidate for the assistant director of bands will serve alongside the band faculty to teach, oversee, and help guide the University of Wisconsin Band program in the Mead Witter School of Music (MWSoM). They will assist with aspects in both the athletic band and concert band programs, in addition to classroom teaching within the MWSoM.
They will join a faculty of artists and scholars who are on the leading edge of performance standards and research. Principal duties:
Instruction:
1. Teach one semester long undergraduate conducting course for performance majors.
2. Teach the "Marching Band Techniques" course.
3. Conduct regular office hours.
Band Conducting:
1. Conduct a primary pep band.
2. Conduct one of the non-major University Bands.
3. Additional conducting opportunities with the Mead Witter School of Music Concert Band and Wind Ensemble as needed and appropriate.
Administration:
1. Assist the Director of Athletic Bands with instruction and administrative tasks of the UW Marching and Athletic Bands.
2. Write drills and/or arrangements for the UW Athletic Bands.
3. Serve on MWSoM committees as needed.
Other Duties as Assigned:
1. Work closely with the UW Athletic Department.
2. Assist within the overall scope of the UW Madison Band program.
3. Collaborate with band faculty in all aspects of a comprehensive band program including recruitment, teaching, conducting, and administration; function as a colleague.Responsibilities:Provides classroom, online, and/or laboratory instruction associated with more than one lecture or laboratory course, assists with the design and execution of administrative functions associated with academic instruction and the development of pedagogy/andragogy or assessment tools and resources to support quality student learning. Provides for-credit instruction in formats such as classroom, online and/or laboratory settings, including grading. Serves as an instructor of record.

- At least one year of proven success as a public/private school teacher required.
- Drill design experience and/or marching band arranging is required.
- Demonstrated excellence as a musician, instrumental music teacher, and conductor at the university level is preferred.
Must have an understanding of a large, comprehensive university band program.
Excellent organizational skills, ability to multi-task.
Excellent interpersonal skills, must be able to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
Ability to work independently while maintaining the mission and goals of the department.
Must be able to work collaboratively with various stakeholders.
Respect of individuals and their diverse backgrounds is a requirement and expectation

It is anticipated this position requires work be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location.

ACADEMIC (9 months)
The starting salary for the position is $50,000 but is negotiable based on experience and qualifications.

This is a full- time, academic year (9 month) position, with one guaranteed month in the summer.
