JOB TITLE: Community Standards CoordinatorDEPARTMENT: Campus LifeREPORTS TO: Senior Director of Student Engagement SummaryThe Community Standards Coordinator is responsible for addressing and investigating all reported infractions to the Student Code of Conduct, tracking all violations/sanctions, scheduling hearings as required, adjudicating community standards cases through a restorative justice lens and hosting educational programming. This is a live-in, 12-month position and serves as a member of the On- Duty crisis response team and participates in a weekly on-call crisis response rotation and handles crises as needed.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Respond accordingly to all reported violations of the Student Code of Conduct as outlined in the Student Handbook.
  • Track and process all incident reports to ensure reporting and compliance using Simplicity Advocate.
  • Schedule and adjudicate hearings as required using a restorative justice lens.
  • Serve as investigator for Campus Standards Board hearings as outlined and when required.
  • Assist Senior Director of Student Engagement with critical issues in the residence halls including roommate disputes and disciplinary problems.
  • Facilitate Conduct Advisor and Campus Standards Board trainings to student advisors and university faculty and staff volunteers and oversee the Conduct Advisor program.
  • Monitor sanctioned community restitution.
  • Assist in assessment of student conduct process.
  • Assist in compiling the annual security report.
  • Suggest changes and additions to the Student Handbook.
  • Oversee training and supervision of conflict coaches.
  • Conduct regular educational opportunities for students through programming initiatives, including planning programming for Sexual Assault Awareness Month and Domestic Violence Awareness Month.
  • Conduct training sessions and in-services for Resident Assistants/Community Advisors on community standards and host Know the Code as part of New Student Orientation.
  • Liaison with Vector to update Vector trainings semesterly and administer and track completion of Vector trainings for all new students.
  • Review conduct history on all study away applicants through Onbase.
  • Assist during large scale events hosted by Campus Life; including but not limited to: Orientation, Resident Assistant/Community Advisor Trainings, RA banquet, Student Leadership Awards, UArts Day, and UArts Weekend.
  • Serve in the 12 month On-Duty rotation at a Professional on Duty level for crisis response to support students in critical situations and be a resource to student staff.
  • Maintain confidentiality of educational records in compliance with FERPA.
  • Assist in day-to-day activities as needed in the Office of Campus Life.

  • A minimum of an earned Master’s Degree in Higher Education, Education, Student Affairs, or similar area.
Experience
  • Minimum of 1-2 years’ experience in residence life, community standards/conduct, or related field.
  • 1-2 years on call crisis response experience preferred.

  • Demonstrated attention to detail and success in managing student conduct records.
  • Demonstrated ability to host educational conversations with students around issues relating to a student code of conduct.
  • Understanding of the conduct process and ability to adjudicate cases through a restorative justice lens.
  • Demonstrated ability to create a welcoming, safe and healthy environment for students.
  • Openness to different and new ways of doing things; willingness to modify one’s preferred way of doing things.
  • Ability to work with diverse population of students.
  • Ability to devise and host training sessions for students.
  • Ability to notice, interpret, and anticipate others’ concerns and feelings, and to communicate this awareness empathetically to others.
  • Ability to develop, maintain, and strengthen partnerships with others inside or outside the university.
  • Ability to demonstrate concern for satisfying one’s external and/or internal customers.
  • Ability to work some evenings and weekends throughout the year.
  • Ability to work in an on-call crisis response duty rotation being on-call 24/7 for one week at a time approximately 8 weeks a year.
