General Notes

A hybrid work arrangement is possible for this position, which is based in Austin, Texas. Remote work will require reliable internet access and a suitable workspace free from distractions. A flexible working arrangement agreement will be required upon offer.

This position is a collaborative hire between the Department of Health Social Work and the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences. The first of its kind in the nation, the Department of Health Social Work is a collaboration of Dell Medical School and the Steve Hicks School of Social Work at The University of Texas at Austin. Jointly operated by both schools, the department creates an academic home for social workers and other integrated behavioral health providers to improve the health of individuals, families and communities, create value in health care, innovate new models of health social work and integrated behavioral health practice, and build civic and community engagement and connections. The department creates a formalized structure of collaboration to support their shared interprofessional missions.

Purpose

The Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) provides assessment, triage and treatment to individuals diagnosed with bipolar disorder who may also have co-occurring substance use disorders, other co-morbid psychiatric disorders and/or chronic health conditions using a time-limited, evidence-based approach. The LCSW provides direct services, functions as community liaison and as an interdisciplinary team member. Provides supervision to learners, which may be assigned to unit with consideration to current caseload.

Responsibilities

  • Work in partnership with the care team of the Bipolar Disorder Center to deliver patient-centered care for individuals diagnosed with bipolar disorder and other psychiatric conditions. Provide discipline specific knowledge to interdisciplinary team around mental health, cultural competency, social determinants of health, and innovative ways to approach chronic illness in patients.

  • Conduct diagnostic evaluations and provide assessment of strengths, preferences, functional impairments and symptoms of psychiatric and/or co-occurring disorder(s) at regular intervals to ensure optimal and personalized services.

  • Develop and maintain working relationships with behavioral health providers in the community to create a network of aligned providers. Maintain a highly collaborative approach to a diverse and inclusive cohort of clinical team members, as well as the local, regional and national professional communities.

  • Deliver therapeutic evidence-based and best practice interventions (via telehealth or in-person) including, but not limited to, skills training through psychoeducation and patient education strategies; individual, family and group services; and crisis services with linkages to crisis resources as needed.

  • Participate in social work/departmental meetings, continuing education opportunities, academic and research opportunities to optimize patient best practice and interdepartmental collaboration. Maintain written documentation and generate charge capture for all therapy services rendered, including the initial assessment, follow-up visits, and discharge summary, consistent with organizational standards. Required Qualifications

Hold a Master of Social Work (MSW) degree from an institutional program certified by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE). Be licensed as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) in the state of Texas. Demonstrate the ability to communicate and collaborate effectively with a variety of other health care professionals. Ability to exercise resourcefulness and good judgment. Ability to exercise resourcefulness and good judgment. Ability to manage multiple streams of work. Maintain a positive, compassionate, and professional attitude when engaging with clients. Possess excellent interpersonal skills; written and oral communication skills; organizational, planning, follow-up/follow-through, and time management skills. Preferred Qualifications

Bilingual in English and Spanish. Two years of experience. Certification in an evidence-based psychotherapy modality, such as, CBT, DBT, MI, CBT-I, IPSRT or other.(Enter Preferred Qualifications here)
