Job Purpose:
The Director is responsible for developing meaningful relationships with potential and current major gift level donors to The University of Scranton. Additionally, this position is responsible for managing a portfolio of donors and prospective donors and facilitating all phases of the gift cycle, including: initiating contact, cultivating and moving potential donors to solicitation and closure, making solicitations, writing proposals, and stewarding donors. The Director works collaboratively with key volunteers, university leadership, Advancement staff and other University representatives to cultivate and solicit donors for University priorities.
Essential Duties:
  • Develop relationships for the University with donors and prospective donors to secure financial support for University priorities
  • Manage a portfolio of upwards of 150 prospect households and achieve stated individual performance metrics related to prospect qualification, cultivation, solicitation and planned giving targets focused at gift levels of $50K and greater
  • Prepare proposals for gift solicitations that may include major, planned and annual fund gift components; focus on securing support for campus-wide priorities/initiatives
  • Remain well-informed about the universitys academic programs and fundraising goals in order to align prospect work with identified institutional priorities
  • Proactive in the development of stewardship strategies to achieve high donor satisfaction and increased philanthropic support; oversee stewardship strategies for assigned prospects and/or projects
  • Serve as Advancement representative at key meetings and as liaison to/from Advancement team
  • Support initiatives sponsored by offices both within University Advancement and across campus; events include, but not limited to Presidents Business Council, Parents Executive Council, Athletics, Reunion and Career Services
  • Work with key leadership in the development of fundraising projects
  • In collaboration with Advancement Team, develop an integrated approach to strengthen Scrantons presence and impact in the Mid-Atlantic region
  • Expand the philanthropic base for support through measurable increases in regional prospect qualification and total giving goals
  • Recruit volunteer leadership representative of regional representation; serve as primary liaison to regional campaign volunteers
Additional Skills Required:
  • Must be willing to work some evenings and weekends
  • Ability to work during periods of high volume
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team, build effective relationships, and manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Excellent communication, organizational and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to meet goals and performance objectives
  • Must be willing to travel frequently to meet with donors via car, train and air when necessary
  • Ability to plan and implement fundraising solicitations
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office
  • Ability to complete projects on time and on budget
  • Must be able to support the Universitys commitment to fostering a diverse, equitable, and inclusive culture
  • Must be able to respect, support and contribute to the Universitys Catholic and Jesuit mission
Minimum Education Requirements:
  • Bachelors Degree or equivalent combination of education and experience
Preferred Education:
  • Masters Degree preferred
Minimum Job Experience Requirements:
  • At least five (5) years related work experience
