Job Purpose:
The Assistant Director of Community and Civic Engagement is responsible for managing and coordinating programs, events, special projects, and related communications and assuring completion of office administration support activities to further the university's community engagement and government affairs activities in alignment with our mission as an anchor institution in the Scranton area and as a Jesuit and Catholic institution of higher education.
Essential Duties:
- Coordinate community and civic engagement projects including the Downtown Engagement initiative as well as other special projects and involving such tasks as partner outreach and collaboration and organizing events- Collaborate with the AVP (Assistant Vice President for Community Engagement and Government Affairs) to lead the coordination of K-12 school-based academic community engagement activities in collaboration with campus and community partners- Collaborate with the AVP and CBL (community-based learning) Faculty Coordinator to match community partners with faculty and academic course and program related CBL activities- Manage office financial and other records and assign, assure and collaborate on office administrative tasks, including scheduling meetings and events, managing contact lists, preparing monthly credit card transaction statements, and issuing check requests and expense and travel reports- Interview, hire and supervise student interns, work-study students and other volunteers for community engagement and government affairs support- Maintain and coordinate community/government related communications, including: coordinating the regular updating of the Community Relations and other related websites and pages; coordinating a monthly e-newsletter; creating and gathering content for weekly Royal News section and regular social media channel posts; and collaborating with the AVP on periodic publication projects and award applications
  • Collaborate with the AVP in relationship-building with community and neighborhood organizations and with other community relations duties, including fielding questions or concerns from members of the external community
- Collaborate with the AVP on government and civic affairs activities, including managing non-partisan voter engagement in collaboration with campus partners and national organizations; assisting with political dialogue projects; coordinating student advocacy events, activities and communications; drafting of content for grants; and other duties as assigned- Represent the University and give presentations at campus and community meetings, committees or events as assigned and maintain an inventory of regional promotional materials for admissions and other related activities.

  • Ability to network effectively within the University, including faculty and academic departments, and the Scranton community and develop and maintain positive relationships with diverse stakeholders

  • Must be able to work occasional evenings and weekends

Minimum Education Requirements:
  • Bachelors degree required (political science, public administration, communication, or other disciplines)
Preferred Education:
Minimum Job Experience Requirements:
  • Three (3) years of experience working in community outreach, external affairs, and/or community relations within higher education, in a non-profit organization or related sector
