The Clinical Operations Manager will support the Clinical Cell and Vaccine Production Facility (CVPF) at the University of Pennsylvania in the development, manufacture, and testing of cell and gene therapy products for early phase I/II clinical trials in HIV and cancer under Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) guidance and Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) compliance
Job Description
The Clinical Operations manager will supervise Clinical Operations assistant(s) and will serve as a liaison across multiple functional groups within the CVPF, including Operations, Manufacturing, Quality Control, Quality Assurance, and Facilities. The Clinical Operations manager will be responsible for scheduling and coordination with the clinical sites (ie. CTU, Clinical Operations Managers, clinical coordinators, Principal Investigators, as needed). S\he will report to the Director of Operations and will be responsible for high-level planning including: quarterly patient manufacturing slot allocations across two GMP Facilities; capacity assessment to enable long-term strategic planning and appropriate allocation of resources; supervising Clinical Operations junior staff; maintenance and implementation of electronic systems (e.g., MES, scheduling, billing) as well as training of the Team on new systems; providing regulatory support to the Quality group; invoicing for services rendered and driving cost analysis for new services as needed. Ability to work on weekends or after hours to manage urgent, time-sensitive requests or changes to the clinical schedule is required.
Qualifications: A Bachelor's Degree is required and 3-5 years of relevant experience or equivalent combination of education and experience is required. Extensive project management and logistics experience and fluency in project planning and analysis software are required. Experience working in a GMP environment supporting clinical trials is strongly preferred. Demonstrated ability to interact professionally with individuals of varying levels of education, experience, and job duties and to thrive in a collaborative research environment is required, as well as the ability to work independently. Effective verbal and written communication skills are required to serve as a liaison across multi-functional groups. Previous training and experience in a supervisory role managing direct reports is required. A detailed-oriented work ethic with strong organization and excellent time management skills are vital to excel in this position. The ability to multitask is critical. Superior computer skills with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint are essential, as is a willingness and aptitude for learning new software systems.
