The Department of Cell Biology and Physiology seeks a motivated Health Sciences Research Tech 3 to work within our Vascular Physiology Group. This position would support multiple investigators who integrate interdisciplinary approaches to study mechanisms involved in autoimmunity and pulmonary vascular disease in pulmonary hypertension.Duties of this position include, but are not limited to, research animal husbandry and maintenance, cell/tissue culture, molecular biology (RNA, DNA and protein), general lab procedures and ordering, biosafety compliance, and equipment maintenance. Duties may also include support in training students who come through the laboratory.

• For individual positions in which driving is a job requirement, a valid NM driver's license and valid UNM driver's permit will be required.
• Successful candidate must submit to post-offer, pre-employment physical examination and medical history check.
• Annual TB testing may be required if working in a patient care area.

High school diploma or GED; at least 5 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

• Bachelor Degree in Biology, Biochemistry, Chemistry, Biomedical Sciences, or another biological or health related field
• Previous working experience in a research laboratory
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• High level of organization and attention to detailed documentation of research methodology, protocols, and procedures
• Experience in lab work including cell/tissue culture, RNA, DNA and protein-based experiments
• Experience performing immunohistochemistry and knowledge of basic histology and staining techniques
• Knowledge of scientific research methodology, lab and chemical safety, and standards in the handling of human tissue and protected health information
• Skill in collecting, entering, and verifying research data
• Experience maintaining supply inventory; collect and organize research data
• Successful candidate will be expected to exhibit individual initiative, work independently; be technically proficient and accurate
• Experience with animal models including husbandry and animal necropsy
