Position Summary

The Department of Undergraduate Medical Education’s Office Program Evaluation, Education, and Research (PEAR) is seeking a detail-oriented, organized, and collaborative Research Specialist to join our team. The PEAR unit provides evaluation services in UME, which administers the four-year medical school curriculum. This Research Specialist will work independently and in collaboration with other PEAR staff on tasks and projects, which include:
1. Administering end-of-course evaluations and related surveys to measure students’ attitudes toward the curriculum;
2. Developing evaluation instruments and approaches for curricular evaluation;
3. Analyzing qualitative data and using basic statistical measures to summarize evaluation findings;
4. Coordinating and performing course reviews for the Curriculum Committee, the UME’s governing body;
5. Responding to internal requests for data analyses and/or presentations.
Duties and responsibilities:
1. Serve as the principal contact between the PEAR unit and external customers regarding evaluations.
2. Administer end-of-course evaluations and related surveys and communicate with students, who complete said evaluations.
3. Run reports and review data before distributing them to stakeholders, including administrators, course directors, and staff.
4. Maintain confidentiality of records and information.
5. Maintain and develop record-keeping practices and systems.
6. Schedule and attend meetings with medical school faculty, administrators, staff, and students.
7. Coordinate data collection, cleaning, and analysis. Contribute to analyzing qualitative data, identifying and refining emergent themes.

Finalists should be prepared to provide official educational transcripts if selected for hire.

Conditions of Employment
  • For individual positions in which driving is a job requirement, a valid NM driver's license and valid UNM driver's permit will be required.
  • Successful candidate must submit to post-offer, pre-employment physical examination and medical history check.
  • Employees who provide services or work in patient care or clinical areas are required to be in compliance with the University's influenza vaccination requirement.
Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or GED; at least 7 years experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

Preferred Qualifications

1. Ability to think critically and reason through problems independently.
2. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
3. Ability to collaborate with other team members and abide by group policies and practices.
4. Ability to manage projects and meet deadlines.
5. Experience coding qualitative data and identifying emergent themes.
6. Ability to write, synthesize, and edit reports from multiple data sources.
7. Experience with databases.
8. Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
a. Word: ability to format text, tables, charts, and images.
b. Excel: ability to sort, filter, and link records as well as create charts and tables.
c. PowerPoint: ability to create presentations with images, tables, and charts.
9. Familiarity with the medical school curriculum across Phases I-III.
10. Experience using one45 or a comparable curriculum management system.

Additional RequirementsWorking hours are Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. However, occasional weekend and/or evening work may be required, depending on department needs.
