Job Description

The Social Cognition of Social Change (SCSC) Laboratory at the University of Missouri is seeking a full-time Research Specialist I to begin in the summer or fall of 2024. The initial appointment is for one year, with the possibility to extend for additional years based on annual renewal.

Directed by Dr. Erin Hennes, the SCSC Lab studies cognitive and motivational biases in information processing and person perception, particularly in the context of contemporary social issues such as environmental sustainability and racial, gender, and economic inequality. Much of this research examines how concern for the maintenance of social stability and preferences for restorative vs. progressive change influence cognitive processes, attitudes, and behavior. The lab takes a multi-method, interdisciplinary approach to studying both basic and translational aspects of the psychology of social change. Dr. Hennes is also heavily involved in the development and application of advanced quantitative methods.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collecting, processing, and analyzing data from the lab, field, and online
  • Coordinating schedules and daily tasks of undergraduate research assistants
  • Assisting with research preparations and creating materials, programming studies, and manuscripts
Shift

Flexible work schedule with supervisor approval. Standard 40 hours expected per week.

Minimum Qualifications

A Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience and at least 1 year of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary.

Completion of the Collaborative Institute Training Initiative (CITI Program) within first two weeks after hire date as a condition of employement.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Psychology or closely related discipline
  • Research interest in social change/social justice, political psychology, motivated cognition, environmental psychology, and/or intergroup relations
  • Experience in social psychological research design and programs such as Microsoft Office, EndNote, Qualtrics, Prolific, SPSS, SAS, MPlus, and/or R
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Data analytic experience
Anticipated Hiring Range

Salary Range: $16.72 to $17.00/ hour

Grade: GGS - 007
