Under general supervision by a pharmacist, compounds sterile products in accordance with principles of aseptic technique and in accordance with the prescriber orders and

company policies and procedures and performs activities associated with maintaining the pharmacy.

• Performs activities associated with inventory maintenance.
• Completes quality assurance activities and quality control records for documentation of appropriate sterile compounding processes.
• Maintains cleanliness of MIC and other equipment and the pharmacy in accordance with policies and procedures.
• Enters patient medication orders into the home infusion order entry system.
• Maintains keys and exercises access to drug storage areas.
• Generates and/or maintains appropriate records related to medication distribution and dispensing and disposal.
• Utilizes various equipment including Baxa pump, label printers, laser report printers, and computer keyboards/terminals.
• Utilizes aseptic technique in MIC to prepare sterile products, including cytotoxic drugs, in single doses.
• Utilizes automated compounding equipment in the MIC to compound parenteral nutrition solutions.
• Participates in the orientation of pharmacy technicians and pharmacists.
• Communicates with other health care personnel. Assists pharmacists with the orientation and on-the-job training of all new technicians.
• Maintains area orderliness and cleanliness.
• Administrative technician duties as assigned by the Pharmacist in charge.

• High school graduation including a general mathematics course, or the equivalent.
• Current Iowa Pharmacy Technician Certificate of Registration.
• A combination of related experience and related post-high school education to equal a minimum of one year.
• Current Pharmacy Technician Certification or eligibility. All pharmacy technicians must be certified within one year of employment.

If certification is not achieved by the end of one year of employment, individuals will be terminated. (Per Board of Pharmacy)

• One year experience as a Pharmacy Technician, or
• One year of experience in a position directly related to the natural sciences, or one-year post-high school education in the natural sciences or related area.

• Home Infusion pharmacy experience and clinical pharmacy experience are desirable.
