Description:

Position Summary
This position examines and analyzes moderately complex hospital claims and takes the appropriate action to correct claims, perform follow-up activities on accounts and collects outstanding hospital account receivables. Employees at this level may train lower-level staff members.
Duties & Responsibilities

• 40% Corrects moderately complex charge and coding errors in the claim scrubber application, applying the appropriate ICD, CPT/HCPCs and other UB04 claim form codes in accordance with Federal and State regulations and/or commercial contract requirements and standard industry compliance regulations.

• 40% Follow-Up activity, contacts insurance companies, commercial, governmental carriers and other third-party payors by telephone, on-line portals and/or mail communication in order to determine the cause of unpaid and/or underpaid hospital claims.

• 10% Annotates accounts through an electronic work queue, indicating action taken including resolving account balances, including contractual adjustments and appeal of denial activity

• 5% Collaborates with Collectors and Customer Service to address and resolve payor claim denials and/or underpayments and patient complaints.

• 5% Performs other related duties to support the billing and collection efforts of the team, department and hospital organization.
