Description:

The HR Associate (Level I) supports the Law School's human resources functions including academic and civil service searches, recruitment and onboarding, employment processing, payroll, job description development and maintenance, employee relations, reporting and training, and policy administration. Further, the HR Associate (Level I) assists with performance development, evaluation, and training to ensure the workforce is meeting the operational needs of the UIC School of Law.
Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Ensures compliance with university, state, and federal laws and regulations regarding HR practices. Serves as a resource to Law School business managers, hiring managers, and employees, advising on University and College policies.
  • Processes human resource transactions for new hires across multiple employee groups (fulltime and adjunct faculty, academic, civil service, fellows, students); appointment changes, separations, overcompensations, pay adjustments, overpayments, and final benefits distribution. Ensures appropriate policy and guidelines are followed and transaction deadlines are met.
  • Coordinates the payroll processing, current and previous payroll adjustments, and maintaining payroll documentation.
  • Tracks leaves and process leave transactions.
  • Assist with the coordinaiton of faculty, academic, and civil service searches for vacancies throughout the Law School. Confirms that UIC Access and Equity and State University Civil Service System requirements are followed.
  • Assists supervisors and hiring managers in the development of job descriptions based on staffing needs and implements School recruitment strategies, focusing on diversity and inclusion. Participates in the interview, onboarding, and new hire orientation processes.
  • Assists the HR Director, UIC Labor Relations, and supervisors to gather and present information related to disciplinary action or grievances.
  • Creates or obtains reports and data files for analysis using a variety of reporting tools such as Business Objects, EDDIE, and Decision Support to supply information regarding Law School faculty and staff, leaves, promotion and tenure, and human resources performance metrics.
  • Serves as a liaison between Campus offices and Law School employees and guides employees to available Campus resources to meet their personal and professional goals.
  • Implements established short-term and long-term goals to achieve the Law School’s and HR Office's vision and mission.
  • Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resource Administration, Management, Organizational Administration, Public Administration, Labor Relations, Business Administration or a field closely related to the position.
  • Two (2) years (24 months) of work experience performing professional-level human resources duties.
  • Additional education, training, and/or work experience in the area of specialization inherent to the position, may be required.
