University of Houston-Downtown is Hiring a Non-College Work-study, Advancement Services Near Houston, TX

Hourly Rate: $15/hr.

Supports UHD’s strategic fundraising and alumni relations efforts by working closely with university advancement services professionals. Individuals interested in serving UHD by bolstering outside support will gain a distinctive perspective on the business services that support fundraising and alumni engagement. Although this student will not be directly involved with soliciting support, the position will enable someone to learn about the operations of a successful university and nonprofit fundraising office.

Duties:

  • Provides support to members of Advancement Services staff who deliver business services for University Advancement
  • Utilizes excellent verbal communication and business writing skills to support a positive image of UHD among external constituencies
  • Assists with processing vouchers, expense reports, gift transmittal forms, invoices, and monthly P-card statements
  • Accesses and updates donor information in the University of Houston System constituent relationship management (CRM) system
  • Conducts targeted research from both university and external sources
  • Prepares and distributes communications and correspondence on behalf of others
  • Schedules meetings
  • Performs general office tasks, including, but not limited to, answering phones and emails, ordering office supplies, running reports, ordering promotional items, and ordering business cards
  • Assists with planning events and attends and assists at events as required
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Knowledge:

  • Knowledge of basic office and administration tasks and equipment
  • Must have basic computer knowledge
  • MS Office Tools (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)

Skills:

  • Good technical skills, including proficiency in MS Office and PeopleSoft
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and customer service skills
  • Good attention to detail

Abilities:

  • Ability to follow instructions and work in a timely manner
  • Ability to multitask
  • Ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of individuals and constituencies in a diverse university community
  • Must be reliable
  • Must have a positive attitude
  • Must be a team player

  • Must be a current UHD undergraduate or graduate student and in good standing with the university

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Currently majoring in accounting, communication, data science, data analytics, management information systems (MIS), marketing, non-profit management, technical communication, or a related field
