Position Summary | The Part-time Peabody Processing Specialist works two days each week, and is responsible to the Peabody Awards Archivist of the Walter J. Brown Media Archives & Peabody Awards Collection for item-level accessioning and processing of analog Peabody Awards Collection entries and ingesting born-digital Peabody submissions. The Brown Media Archives is one of the largest electronic media archives in the country. The Archives include over 300,000 television and radio programs, 5 million feet of newsfilm and nine large news collections from around the state, folk music field tapes, home movies, Georgia-related broadcasting, and several extensive collections related to the University of Georgia, including the Athletic Department analog audiovisual content. The Peabody Awards Collection is the keystone of the collection, containing virtually every entry submitted for this prestigious award, and constitutes one of the foremost and most diverse sound and moving images collections in the world. The Brown Media Archives is located in the Richard B. Russell Building Special Collections Libraries in Athens. Brown Media Archives is staffed by six full-time librarians and three technical support staff and employs approximately ten student workers |
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies | * Familiarity with archival media formats * Working knowledge of historical research using primary sources * Understanding of the importance of inclusion and accessibility in the description of archival collections. * Familiarity with processing archival collections. * Knowledge of PBCore and Library of Congress Name Authority file * Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships * Effective oral and written communication skills * Ability to perform detailed work with a high degree of accuracy and to work independently within a framework of assigned responsibilities * Fluency in Microsoft Office Suite * Familiarity with Google sheets and Google docs |
