The Department of General Medicine in the School of Medicine at UConn Health is seeking a Research Assistant III to work on the Improving the Identification of Patients at High Risk for Readmission after Pneumonia grant. This is a fulltime position that is located in Farmington, CT. If you have experience in this field, we want to hear from you. 

PURPOSE OF CLASS:

This position is accountable for performing the most complex tasks for assigned research projects, programs, segments in a research setting.

 

SUPERVISION RECEIVED:

Works under the limited supervision of an employee of higher grade, such as a Principal Investigator. 

SUPERVISION EXERCISED:

May lead lower level employees as assigned.

 

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

Performs research projects independently.

Independently cleans and codes data from electronic medical records and other data sources.

Database setup and management.

Performs statistical data analysis using R, SQL, Python, and Stata software packages.

Contributes to sections of articles for research publication.

May train medical/dental students, residents, and fellows in related research techniques.

Be responsible for project management, including IRB documentation, study folders, and other regulatory requirements.

Performs related duties as required.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED

KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY:

Considerable knowledge of relevant research protocols, principles and procedures

Considerable knowledge of more advanced scientific techniques, such as mathematics, statistics, computer applications

Considerable knowledge of experimental design, mathematics, statistics, computer applications, laboratory equipment and procedures

Considerable knowledge of a science such as chemistry, biology, microbiology, pharmacology

Knowledge of physical and data resources in applicable scientific disciplines

Oral and written communication skills, ability to identify, produce, organize, analyze, evaluate, interpret and report complex data.

 

EDUCATION AND TRAINING:

General Experience:

Bachelor's degree in the appropriate discipline, i.e., Biology, Medical Technology, Chemistry, Histology, Biochemistry, Psychology, Computer Science

Degrees in other areas may be substituted on a case-by-case basis.

Two (2) years of research experience in a relevant discipline.

 Substitutions Allowed:

College training in a relevant discipline may be substituted for the general experience on the basis of fifteen (l5) semester hours equaling one-half year of experience to a maximum of four (4) years for a bachelor’s degree.

A master’s degree in a relevant discipline, may be substituted for one (1) additional year of experience.

 SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

Must be proficient in the use of database and analytic software, including SQL, Python, R, Stata, and other statistical packages.

Incumbents in this class may be required to undergo periodic tests or immunizations for communicable diseases.

 WORKING CONDITIONS:

Incumbents in this class may be required to undergo periodic tests or immunizations for communicable diseases.

 SCHEDULE: Full-time, 40 hours per week. Primarily Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.; 30-minute unpaid meal break.
