At UConn Health this classification provides quality radiation therapy treatments to patients as prescribed and according to established practices and standards. This is a per diem position working in Radiation Therapy.
THIS IS A TEMPORARY POSITION WITH NO STATE PAID BENEFITS
SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Works under general supervision of an employee of higher class
SUPERVISION EXERCISED: May lead/train students
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:
Independently performs radiation treatments and procedures as prescribed in treatment plan accurately, timely and in an effective manner
Participates in conference with treatment team to review and discuss patient issues such as history, diagnostic studies, disease state, type of treatment, etc.
Reviews prescription diagnosis, patient's chart and identification
Prepares treatment room and equipment such as immobilizations, treatments, and protection devices
Positions patient according to prescription
Explains procedures appropriate to patient's level of understanding and reassures patient during treatment
Reports unusual reactions to physician
Consults with members of the team and other supportive care personnel
Monitors accessory and equipment attached to patients and reports any malfunction
Documents treatment administered, equipment control settings, unusual reaction and any changes to prescribed treatment
Photographs treated area of patient
Maintains records, reports and files as required
Communicates information to appropriate personnel regarding patient progress including emotional status and other factors
Recognizes emergency situations and activates response
Follows principles of radiation protection for patient, self and others and adheres to UCHC's patient safety and environmental guidelines
Performs quality control and participates in the department's quality assurance programs
May train therapy students or others as assigned
Maintains equipment and supplies and inventory controls
Performs other related duties as required
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITY:
Knowledge of theories and principles of radiation application, radiation protection, equipment operations, patient's assessment and management, physical assistance and transfer, and quality assurance
Knowledgeable and skilled in block making
Knowledge of common terminology in charge capture such as CPT codes and level of billing
Knowledge of relevant Federal, State and accreditation agency guidelines
Understands the concepts of brachytherapy and associated radiation protection issues
Computer skills
Interpersonal skills, effective oral and written communication skills
EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING:
General Experience: Graduation from an ARRT approved two (2) year certificate program or Associates Degree program in radiation therapy
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Incumbent must be certified and registered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologist (ARRT)
OR
Eligible If not registered/certified at time of hire must obtain registration/certification within six (6) months of hire
Incumbents in this class must possess and maintain a license to perform radiography in the State of Connecticut
American Heart Association (AHA) BLS (CPR/AED) or ACLS Certification or formal training
Other CPR/AED credentials may be accepted at hire but incumbents will be required to obtain American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or ACLS within six (6) months of hire and maintain during employment.
