University of California - Los Angeles Health is Hiring an Oncology Social Worker II/III Near Los Angeles, CA

DescriptionAs Oncology Social Worker at the Simms Mann Center, you will collaborate with the Center and Clinical Directors, delivering comprehensive psychosocial care to cancer patients and their families, and within the Bowyer Oncology team, providing direct case management, resource navigation, and direct care delivery. Your role involves providing culturally competent social work services, including assessment, intervention, and recommendations to individual patients and their families often from marginalized and under-resourced areas. Patients at the Bowyer clinic often travel long distances for treatment, utilizing Medicare/MediCal payor systems.The Oncology Social Worker actively engages in interdisciplinary activities, adhering to departmental standards for attendance, documentation, quality improvement, and ethical guidelines. Identify patients, address referrals, and meet diverse needs within the Bowyer Oncology Department. Provide referrals for economic, psychological, social, hospice, and home health care, and chart interactions in electronic medical record. Operating within a complex medical system, assist patients in navigation and provide various services to enhance the well-being of those affected by cancer. This includes developing a deep understanding of the Simms Mann Center and community resources, utilizing screening tools to develop appropriate interventions, and collaborating with oncology professionals to promote quality of life of patients. Play a role in program evaluation, development, and contribute to maintaining an updated resource referral network and website. Additionally, the Oncology Social Worker participates in training interns and volunteers, responds promptly to STAT referrals, and addresses elevated patient needs.Additional duties may include, but are not limited to, acting as a clinical consultant for the California End of Life Act in accordance with UCLA Health policy, traveling to various oncology clinics, and facilitating therapeutic support groups as required.Keep current with professional social work healthcare knowledge base and pursue further enhancement of job-related knowledge. Requirements include LCSW and oncology experience. Preferred qualifications include understanding of fast-paced outpatient infusion center operations, familiarity with medical issues and complications in various Hematologic/Oncologic diagnoses, experience navigating challenging social dynamics and communication/language barriers, and bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish.Monthly Salary Range for CSW 2: $7,689.06 - $9,185.46Monthly Salary Range for CSW 3: $8,357.22 - $9,987.60Will hire at the 2 or 3 level based on experience and licensure.
QualificationsRequired:* Master's degree in social work and licensed in California.* Knowledge of psychosocial and other rehabilitation related problems that arise in individuals with cancer at all phases of their disease and treatments.* Knowledge of the most common cancers (e.g. breast, colon, prostate, lung and gynecologic) and their treatments.* Knowledge of psychosocial distress screening instruments. Ability to formulate assessments of psychosocial needs of individuals with cancer. Ability to put these skills to use.* Skills and knowledge to deliver psychosocial interventions in a medical setting.* Skills required to facilitate individual, group and family therapy interventions.* Ability to identify referral sources and to provide referrals for economic, psychosocial and home health care programs.* Ability to function as a team member.* Ability to adapt to changing priorities including seeing patients at multiple sites, under various conditions, without a specific office.* Interpersonal skills to interact effectively with patients and medical staff including physicians and nurses to function as a team member.
