University of California- Davis Health is Hiring a Pharmacy Technician Specialist (PHARMACY TCHN 3) Near Sacramento, CA

The Pharmacy Technician Specialist is responsible for gathering information from medical records and other sources as required to process prior authorizations, patient assistance requests, and other ancillary task related to the operation of a Specialty Pharmacy program. Makes analysis of what further information needs to be collected to complete patient history. Makes recommendations to pharmacist based on protocols and data gathered. Communicates authorization requests to requesting parties. Assists with processing of prior authorization and patient assistance program requests. Maintains database of activities to document workload and impact on patient outcomes.

Minimum Qualifications

  • California Licensed Pharmacy Technician
  • California Licensed Board of Pharmacy Technician
  • Recent work experience as a Pharmacy Technician
  • Recent experience submitting Prior-Authorizations or significant involvement in the Prior-Authorization process for medication coverage
  • Demonstrated experience of current California Pharmacy Law
  • Demonstrated experience of Pharmacy Dispensing Software and Third-Party Billing

Preferred Qualifications

  • Pharmacy Technician Certification (CPhT)
  • Prior experience in Health System Outpatient Pharmacy
  • Prior experience working in a Specialty Pharmacy
  • Prior experience working for a Pharmacy Benefit Management company
  • Prior Authorization and/or Patient assistance program experience
  • Epic EMR, WIllow Ambulatory, Specialty Pharmacy case management systems and other clinical software experience
  • Experience ensuring compliance of specialty pharmacy accrediting bodies (ie. URAC, TJC, ACHC, etc.)
  • Experience in MS Office suite: Word, Excel, Power Point and Access

Department Description

The Department of Pharmacy Inpatient is a dynamic, integral, and critical part of patient care provided by UC Davis Health. As a department of greater than 600 professional, technical, and administrative support personnel, we focus on providing patient-centered medication management that optimizes outcomes through practice, education, research, and leadership through the continuum of care. We also have the largest pharmacy residency program in the country with 46 total residents in 13 different programs.

The Department of Pharmacy Inpatient offers comprehensive pharmaceutical services (unit dose, IV admixtures, clinical services, infusion pumps, and teaching) throughout the health system complex 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The pharmacy services encompass inpatient pharmacy services as well as an expansive footprint in the ambulatory care space where we have clinical pharmacists embedded within our clinics and specialty care locations. Our operational teams support the health system enterprise with three inpatient pharmacies, five outpatient pharmacies, two infusion pharmacies, a home infusion service line, and the full complement of pharmacy purchasing, stores, and distribution.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

  • Must be able to work occasional overtime. Variable shifts dependent on department need.
  • Must dress in a professional manner as outlined by the departmental dress code and have good personal hygiene.
