Departmental Overview
The College of Engineering at UC Berkeley is recognized for its educational and research excellence, consistently ranking among the top three engineering colleges in the United States. With more than 240 regular faculty members and nearly 7,000 students, Engineering is the second largest college on the Berkeley campus.
The Coleman Fung Institute for Engineering Leadership was launched in January 2010 and is headquartered at UC Berkeley's College of Engineering. Our mission is to shape generations of technical leaders to innovate across boundaries. Our mission is to transform engineers and scientists into leaders who can take risks and develop technical, social, and economic innovations. The Fung Institute achieves its mission through teaching, research, and service activities. The Institute is home to the Berkeley Master of Engineering (MEng) program and undergraduate Fung Fellowship program. These programs combine leadership, technology innovation in all the disciplines of engineering and management education with the mission of empowering leaders to best shape the changing world through technology innovation. Currently the Institute serves nearly 900 students across all the programs, making it one of the largest on campus. The influence of the Institute is also expanded through partnerships with the Haas School of Business, the School of Public Health and UC San Francisco.
The purpose of this position is to lead the student services and operations of the Fung Fellowship program including student affairs, professional development programming, recruitment and admissions, events, and managing special projects. This position plays a key role in managing and supporting long and short term student experience planning for the program.
Reporting to the Director of the Fung Fellowship this position manages the student services and general operations for the Fung Fellowship. Student services includes activities in course support, professional development, information management and events. General management includes long and short range strategic planning in determining the mission and directing activities of multi-disciplinary departments.

Responsibilities

Applies professional student services concepts in providing a variety of student services to the student population served by the organization, and to faculty and management within that organization. Provides advice and assistance to students in the Fung Fellowship courses; assists students in understanding the opportunities within the program; and supports the execution of the student services program strategy. Refers students to the appropriate academic department for academic advice regarding major specific requirements and fulfilling Berkeley certificate programs.
Advise students on a variety of topics, including but not limited course registration, University petitions and deadlines, program requirements, and professional development opportunities. Refer inquiries to department student advisors, other campus offices when appropriate. Provide backup and assistance for other Fung Institute staff in the office.
Course Support: Provide logistical and technical support for lecturers, guest speakers, and GSIs teaching the Fung Fellowship courses. Manage internal communications for the program and academic teams to connect the course and program components of the fellowship. Coordinates classroom space for lab and lecture each semester as well as works with GSIs to determine lab times. When appropriate, refers students to departmental student advisors for course enrollment challenges and any unit change requests. Works directly with course schedulers to update semesterly courses in Cal Central and support student enrollment.
Information Management: Oversee the further development and maintenance of a complex and abundant resources and database including, incoming student surveys, admissions data, event resources and surveys, program engagement metrics, and qualitative feedback: from prospective applicants, current students to alumni. Assists in developing, updating, and synthesizing student feedback to share with the entire team. Routinely updates google drive to ensure resources are current and easily accessible. Leads maintenance of the Fung Fellowship calendar throughout the year.
Assists with program development and fundraising related activities, such as contributing to grant proposals, research agenda, program evaluation, meeting with community and industry partners, attending external events on behalf of the program, developing sponsorship and marketing materials, managing fundraising events, and supporting fundraising strategic planning, marketing, website.

Recruitment and Admissions: Assists in recruitment and admissions activities, including being primary contact for the student Recruitment Board, working with the Marketing team to edit and update materials, and representing the program at student facing recruitment events. Under direction and guidance, implements key aspects of the admissions process to uphold program values and student diversity.
Works to maintain and build partnerships across campus. Seeks out opportunities to share about the program and answer questions from campus staff.
Handles all general phone or e-mail questions and refers other more detailed issues to the appropriate person.
Leads recruitment and admissions data management and provides data driven updates on student outreach and admissions. Provides direct feedback to the Recruitment board members and works with campus partners to increase outreach.

Events: Coordinates and implements non-complex student events and assists in the planning and implementation of complex events.
In conjunction with other Fung Institute staff, assist in planning and executing summer Boot Camp, retreats, end of semester showcases, site visits, workshops, and community building events throughout the year. Plan and conduct other special events for Fung Fellowship students as needed.
Administers facilities and space logistics for the Fung Fellowship. This includes classroom space as well as for week-long Boot Camps, end of semester events for students and community and industry partners, and routine meetings. Events are often large, with hundreds of guests. Manages the equipment and supplies needed for each event.
Develops and implements procedures for supply inventory and keeping equipment in good working condition. Manages and makes decisions for ordering equipment and supplies for the Fung Fellowship.
Website: Manages the updated content and coordination with the Marketing to ensure that the Fung Fellowship website is up to date and effectively telling the story of the program and fung fellows.

Professional Development Programming: Support professional development strategy and key points in the student journey to support fellows.
Actively builds relationships with and checks in with fellows around the program and professional goals or exploration. Utilizes Slack, bCourses, and in person platforms to connect with students and refer them to Fung Institute Career Services where appropriate.
Has the opportunity to collaborate with Career Services Staff to further develop workshops and resources for fellows.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
Knowledge of advising and counseling techniques.
Knowledge of University-specific computer application programs and pertinent databases.
Ability to multi-task; verbal and written communication skills.
Interpersonal skills.
Multicultural competencies; ability to work with diverse populations.
Basic knowledge of student immigration and visa processes pertaining to international students and scholars.

Salary & Benefits
The starting salary for this position is $24.86 to $33.48, commensurate with experience.
