Departmental Overview
The College of Engineering (COE) at UC Berkeley is recognized for its educational and research excellence, consistently ranking among the top three Engineering colleges in the United States. With more than 250 regular faculty members, 1, 800 graduate students and 3,200 undergraduate students located in seven academic departments, Engineering is the second largest college on the Berkeley campus.
The Industrial Engineering and Operations Research Department (IEOR) is an academic department within the College of Engineering (COE). IEOR is home to 15 core faculty, 6 emeriti, 4-5 lecturers, and 8-10 visiting scholars. The department offers bachelor's, master's, and doctoral degrees; as well as two professional master's programs - Master of Engineering (MEng) and Master of Analytics. IEOR is at the forefront of research and teaching of operations research and analytics methods, as well as the advancement of quantitative methodologies to solve problems in the areas of healthcare, supply chains, energy, security, finance, and e-commerce. The department has strong ties with other departments in the UC Berkeley College of Engineering and enjoys close relationships with the departments of Statistics, Mathematics, and Economics, as well as with the Haas School of Business.
The Industrial Engineering & Operations Research department (IEOR) is recruiting an advisor to assist the Student Services office with graduate admissions, graduate student advising, graduate student instructor hiring, event planning and coordinating.

Responsibilities
35%
Applies professional student services concepts in providing a variety of student services to the student population served by the organization, and to faculty and management within that organization.
Recruitment, Admissions, and Retention: Advises prospective applicants on necessary academic preparation; appropriateness of program as it pertains to the prospective applicant's goals; reviews graduate applications; initiates and arranges student recruitment visits.
Respond to telephone and email inquiries regarding the PhD, MS, Master of Engineering (MEng), and Master of Analytics (Analytics) programs.
Provide excellent customer service to prospective and current students.
Under the guidance of the student services manager, process applications to the graduate programs through the COE ACG system and through Slate.
Provide support in the processing of applications, including data entry, followup with applicants via email and phone, review of transcripts, credentials and evaluate prerequisite coursework.
Disseminate incoming student information to incoming students.
Manage respective applicant databases.
Track and maintain both current and incoming student records, including final transcripts, prerequisite coursework, and milestones.

Academic Advising: Provides advice and assistance to students on academic and degree progress; resolve scheduling conflicts, and similar issues.
Provide information to current students on a wide array of student matters ranging from new student services, international student matters, awards and scholarships, fellowships, registration and scheduling, graduation and degree requirements.
Keep current on and maintain knowledge of campus administrative policies and procedures.
Share knowledge with faculty, students and staff when needed.
Monitor academic progress.
20% Administrative:
Coordinates the graduate student instructor (GSI) hiring process
Participates in the processing, and awarding of student fellowships, grants, and other awards.
Oversee room scheduling.
Assist in maintaining website content under student services manager purview.
Provide data to the chair as needed.
Assist finance analyst in processing of event and expense reports and purchase orders.
Other administrative duties as needed.
20% Events: Coordinates and implements student events and assists in the planning and implementation of complex departmental events.
Support in the planning and implementation of all events pertaining in IEOR.
Events include our prospective graduate student Visit Day, New Student Orientation, Fall Picnic, CalDay, Commencement receptions, and other departmental events.
Attend recruitment events/fairs/information sessions as needed.
Required Qualifications
Ability to multi-task; verbal and written communication skills.

Skills in service orientation, organization, active listening, and critical thinking.
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
A strong background in event planning and/or logistics is preferred.
Knowledge of advising and counseling techniques.
Knowledge of University-specific computer application programs and pertinent databases.
Ability in problem identification and reasoning.
Knowledge of University processes and procedures.
Understanding of University rules and regulations.
