Departmental Overview
University Health Services (UHS) serves the campus by providing a comprehensive campus-based health center providing fully accredited primary medical care, counseling and psychological services and innovative health promotion programs for students, faculty and staff. The UHS provides on-campus medical and mental health care and coordinates off-campus care through a network of community specialists and hospitals. Departments serving students include general medical, specialty and urgent care clinics, counseling and psychological services, laboratory, pharmacy, physical therapy, radiology and health promotion.

Responsibilities
The Custodian is responsible for performing custodial duties, minor maintenance, and other miscellaneous duties in order to ensure that the buildings and facilities are maintained in a healthy, safe, and sanitary manner.
Sweep, mop, strip floor finish, seal, wax and spray buff floors using wet vacuums, buffers and furniture moving equipment. Moving heavy furniture, cabinets, desks, examination tables, bookcases, etc, is required. Use of 3', 6', 8' and 12' ladders.
Perform carpet cleaning with industrial type carpet extractors, wet vacuums and sprayers for carpet maintenance.
Clean offices, hallways, stairwells, staff kitchens, clinical exam rooms, practitioner offices and other area of the building as assigned. Wash walls, mirrors, oven, microwave ovens, clean & polish water fountains, windows, office partitions, floors, stairwell railings, waste containers and office furniture. Empty waste containers and safely remove to the designated collection area. Replace fluorescent bulbs and place used bulbs in recycling containers. Sweep and or vacuum offices as scheduled. Maintain restroom facilities in a clean, orderly and sanitary condition. Sweep floors, clean sinks mirrors, showers and plumbing fixtures. Replace toilet tissue, seat covers and soap supplies as required. Housekeeping carts must be cleaned and stocked with supplies at the end of the shift.
Maintain and clean custodial equipment including wet/dry vacuums, buffers, furniture moving equipment, high pressure washers, steam cleaners, vacuum blowers and carpet extractors. Other duties may be assigned.
Required Qualifications
Safety: Always keep safety in mind when working in an assigned area. Always use wet signs when mopping floors. Cleaning equipment must be kept away from fire safety equipment, doorways and stairwells. Use caution, do not drop plastic liners on floors, as they are slip hazards. Utilize gloves for safety measures. Report any safety problems immediately on a service request form to department. When replacing lamps on fixtures, properly secure defuses (light cover fixture) and utilize safety equipment. The Right To Know compliance folder contains all Material Safety Data Sheets and is located the Facilities unit in room number 1192. These forms are for all solutions used in the unit and provide information on:
Chemical Identification
Hazardous Ingredients
Physical Data
Fire and Explosion data
Health Hazard Data
Reactivity Data
Spill or Leak Procedures
Special Protection and Precautions Information
Required to operate industrial type custodial equipment, wet/dry vacuums, upright vacuums, standard buffers, high speed buffers, furniture moving equipment, high pressure washers, steam cleaners, vacuum blowers and carpet extractors. Use of 3', 6', 8' and 12' ladders. Ability to lift 50 lbs., medium to heavy equipment. Ability to work independently. Ability to read and follow written instructions.
Initial physical examination required. Tuberculosis and rubella screening at the date of hire and annually thereafter is required.
Salary & Benefits
Under California law, the University of California, Berkeley is required to provide a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role and should not offer a salary outside of the range posted in this job announcement. This range takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, analysis of internal equity, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be offered a salary at or near the top of the range for a position. Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience.
The budgeted hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position is (Step 12.0) $26.04 This is a 100% full-time (40 hrs a week) non-exempt career position and eligible for full UC Benefits.
