Position overview
Position title: Assistant Specialist Salary range: The posted UC academic salary scales ( https://www.ucop.edu/academic-personnel-programs/compensation/2022-23-academic-salary-scales.html ) set the minimum pay determined by rank and/or step at appointment. Off-scale salaries' and other components of pay, which would yield compensation that is higher than the published system-wide salary at the designated rank and step, are offered when necessary to meet competitive conditions.

Position description
The Department of Psychology at the University of California, Berkeley seeks applications for an Assistant Specialist in the Kidd and Piantadosi Labs directed by Professors Celeste Kidd and Steven Piantadosi. The Assistant Specialist will lead two sets of developmental studies using behavioral methods, including eye tracking, to investigate: 1) the relationship between early mathematics and attention; and 2) the development of algorithmic reasoning in early mathematics. These studies are funded by NSF's Division of Research on Learning in Formal and
Informal Settings.
Summary of Responsibilities:
Develop and run eye tracking and other behavioral experiments with children ages 2 to 8
years old
Analyze data, interpret results, and prepare manuscripts for publication
Recruit and coordinate human subjects
Recruit and manage testing sites (preschools, museums, etc.)
Hire, train, and supervise undergraduate research assistants
Maintain and update human subjects protocols when necessary
Place purchase orders for supplies and equipment
Qualifications
Basic qualifications (required at time of application)
Bachelor's degree (or equivalent international degree) or enrolled in a bachelor's degree program (or equivalent international degree program)
Additional qualifications (required at time of start)
Bachelor's degree or equivalent international degree
Preferred qualifications
Knowledge of developmental studies
Previous experience with the design, implementation, and analysis of eye tracking
experiments
Previous experience working with children, specifically in a research context
Ability to work in a collaborative setting and communicate effectively with members of the
laboratory, parents, and preschool administrators and teachers
Strong quantitative skills and experience with programming, statistics, and experimental
design
Excellent oral and written communication skills
