Position overview Position title: Assistant to Associate Specialist
Salary range: The UC academic salary scales set the minimum pay determined by rank and step at appointment. The current base salary range for this position is $56,600-$78,500. "Off-scale" salaries, which yield compensation that is higher than the published system-wide salary at the designated rank and step, are offered when necessary to meet competitive conditions.

Position duration: The initial appointment will be for one year with the possibility of extension based on performance and availability of funding.

Position description
The Department of Plant and Microbial Biology at the University of California, Berkeley seeks applications for an appointee as a Assistant/Associate Specialist in the Chuck Lab, in the area of grass vascular development and biology.
The Chuck lab is seeking a scientist who will undertake a project characterizing drought mimic and vascular patterning mutants in maize and then clone the affected genes. Mutant transcriptomes will be analyzed using RNA-seq and target genes will be isolated using ChIP-seq. Drought phenotypes of shedding maize plants under water stress will be analyzed in the field at U.C. Davis and U.C. Berkeley. Travel to U.C. Davis will be required, and data will be shared with collaborators at Oregon State University for future publications.
