The Department of Plant & Microbial Biology is committed to the University of California's mission of dedicated research and to providing a superior education in plant biology, microbiology, and related life sciences.
We integrate fast-changing technology and developments into our research and develop collaborative partnerships with other scientists and research institutions at UC Berkeley and around the world.

Responsibilities
Prepare growth media under sterile conditions.
Calculate concentrations and prepare stock solutions using salts and molar masses.
Sterilize media via autoclave, and prepare agar plates and liquid cultures for the growth of target organisms.
Grow and maintain plants (Arabidopsis thaliana, tobacco, and rice).
Learn best practices for the growth of genetically-engineered plants in greenhouse and growth chamber environments.
Maintain plant quality and health for downstream experiments.
Provide support to Lab Manager with general lab management duties, such as receiving and storing laboratory supplies, and cleaning and maintaining laboratory equipment.
Keep careful written and computer records of experiments.
Attend weekly lab meetings.
Prepare and present progress reports on research progress.
Learn and follow the lab's Data Management Plan for long-term and multi-location storage of research data and records.
Required Qualifications
Academic preparation including courses in biological sciences.
One year of biology laboratory experience.
Proven organizational ability and neatness.
Effective oral communication and interpersonal skills.
Education/Training:
High School Diploma or a General Education Diploma and two years of laboratory experience or two years of college including courses in the natural, physical, or social sciences and one year of laboratory experience, and/or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

This range takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, analysis of internal equity, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be offered a salary at or near the top of the range for a position. Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience.
The budgeted hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position is $20.66 (step 1.0).
This is a 100% full-time (40 hours per week), career position that is eligible for full UC benefits.
This position is non-exempt and paid bi-weekly.
