Departmental Overview
University Development and Alumni Relations (UDAR), increases support for and enhances knowledge of UC Berkeley through communications, public outreach, and fundraising. UDAR is responsible for fundraising and donor engagement, and works to strengthen unit development offices by consulting and partnering with campus fundraisers. UDAR also handles a range of central activities and services encompassing events, communications, stewardship, prospect development, gift management, database management, and more.
Annual Programs
The Office of Annual Programs with UDAR is the university's largest fundraising department and is responsible for engaging thousands of alumni, parents, and students as donors and volunteers each year. The goals of this department are to: 1) increase the number of annual donors, 2) significantly raise the amount of discretionary funds for the Chancellor, the deans and program directors, and 3) identify campaign/major donors for the campus. Programs include the Parent and Family Philanthropy program, Pipeline Development, and Direct Response Marketing. The department is made up of 33 employees and raises $13-$15 million in private contributions from 40% of campus donors each year.
Direct Response Marketing
The Direct Response Marketing (DRM) program within Annual Programs manages mass marketing solicitations for the academic units and athletics, through direct mail, email, texting, student calling programs, and Digital Philanthropy. Direct Response Marketing is the primary driver behind reaching the most alumni and generating over 40% of campus donors annually. DRM partners with a variety of campus fundraising professionals to provide solicitation services for many colleges, departments, and programs, as well as student groups.
Digital Philanthropy
The Digital Philanthropy team within Direct Response Marketing is responsible for crowdfunding, Big Give (Berkeley's giving day), thematic giving hubs, texting, and student philanthropy. Digital Philanthropy is a fast-growing and strategic area for the university, with consistent year-over-year donor growth. The team is also tasked with keeping current on new digital fundraising trends and piloting new technology.
Student Experience and Diversity
The Student Experience & Diversity (SED) Philanthropy program is designed to raise funds, and provide meaningful opportunities for alumni, parents, and friends contributing philanthropically to the holistic success of Berkeley students. The Student Experience & Diversity program primarily raises major gift funds in support of student aid, co-curricular activities, and equity and inclusion. The SED Program interfaces with a broad range of divisions and academic units on campus, and serves as the primary fundraising entity for the divisions of Equity & Inclusion, Undergraduate Education, and Student Affairs.

Responsibilities
Educates SED partners on digital fundraising opportunities and best practices through department and program presentations, 1:1 consulting, and written communications. Responsible for ensuring programs successfully fundraise and meet their fundraising revenue and donor goals.
Plans, schedules, and helps implement digital fundraising projects and campaigns within SED.
Develops fundraising strategies within existing policy and best practice guidelines. Updates best practices and training materials, including email and social media templates for fundraising efforts specific to SED.
Participates in short- and long-range strategic fundraising planning for Berkeley's Digital Philanthropy team, specifically towards SED programs.
Helps track and analyze fundraising results year over year for SED divisions.
Provides analysis and information of digital fundraising campaigns, and makes recommendations to upper management for program changes or development of new programs as required with the goal to increase revenue.
Required Qualifications
Thorough working knowledge of fundraising, donor relations, and public relations concepts, principles, procedures, and techniques, including digital fundraising strategies.
Strong written and interpersonal communication skills to establish and maintain excellent working relationships throughout the organization and with outside constituencies, along with strong customer service skills, and guiding project managers to reasonable expectations to meet fundraising goals.
Strong skills in maintaining confidentiality.
Proficient in crowdfunding, fundraising, or similar platforms or have the ability to learn multiple technical systems
Ability to multi-task and juggle multiple projects successfully, which includes a variety of projects, priorities, and personalities.
Must have a flexible work style in order to adjust for new priorities and urgent fundraising needs or shift with changes in strategic direction.
Strong orientation to detail. Required Strong drive to achieve fundraising goals, revenue and donor counts.
Education/Training
Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience or training
Preferred Qualifications
Thorough working knowledge of the location, its vision, mission, goals, objectives, achievements and infrastructure.
Strong knowledge of applicable laws, rules, regulations, policies, etc.
Strong organizational, analytical and critical thinking skills, including skills in creative and effective decision-making and problem identification / avoidance / resolution, and project management skills.
Salary & Benefits
This is an exempt, monthly paid position, eligible for UC benefits.
This is a Bay Area based position; hybrid and remote-friendly.

Under California law, the University of California, Berkeley is required to provide a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role and should not offer a salary outside of the range posted in this job announcement. This range takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, analysis of internal equity, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be offered a salary at or near the top of the range for a position. Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience.
The budgeted annual salary that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position is $82,000 - $97,000 (posted up to $100,000 with maximum experience).
