Departmental Overview
University Development and Alumni Relations (UDAR) strengthens Berkeley's excellence through engagement with alumni, parents, undergraduate and graduate students, and friends of the University, raising public awareness about Berkeley and increasing private philanthropy. UDAR provides overall direction for the campus' philanthropic advancement strategies and works to strengthen unit development in partnership with campus fundraisers. The Division handles a range of central activities and services encompassing communications, stewardship, prospect development, gift management, and more.
A full-service professional team, External Relations and Marketing Communications in UDAR delivers donor-centered and integrated editorial, design, digital, event, and logistical solutions to inspire philanthropy and engage UC Berkeley donors, alumni, parents, and students.
External Relations serves and engages the university's external and internal constituencies through programs, events, awards, and services. They also advise the university community on all matters of protocol, including visits by high-ranking government officials, the UC Office of the President, Regents, and other dignitaries.
Marketing Communications produces digital, multimedia, print donor materials; creates strategies for external-facing marketing and communications, media, and social media; develops fundraising messaging, talking points, slide decks; write proposals, concept proposals, gift acknowledgements, direct mail; and creates flexible campaign brand identity and language resources to build custom pieces.

Responsibilities
Position Overview
The marketing communications project manager is responsible for ensuring the timely delivery of fundraising, donor recognition, and events programming collateral that advances the university's $6 billion comprehensive fundraising campaign. This position reports to the senior director of strategic communications and operations in External Relations and Marketing Communications.
This position partners with supervisor, traffic manager, production manager, and managing editor to create long- and short-term plans, including developing stakeholder review and approval processes, milestones, and deadlines on large, complex communications projects such as the Builders of Berkeley and Homecoming. Manages multiple projects of varying sizes and prioritizes projects according to shifting deadlines and their relative importance. Develops project schedules, tracks and monitors deliverables progress, and follows through with all levels of staff to ensure tasks are completed.
Printed and / or electronic projects may include, but are not limited to: event materials; slide decks and videos; reports, newsletters, and brochures; awards and certificates; proposals and case statements; programs and books; invitations, appeals, and other mailing projects.
Manages day-to-day project operations across a wide variety of projects, monitors deliverables progress and updates project management database, follows through with all levels of staff to ensure tasks are completed, maintains frequent communication with assigned staff and partner-clients, ensures project scope and schedule are adhered to, and identifies issues that may delay delivery. Collaborates with supervisor, traffic manager, production manager, and managing editor to create long- and short-term plans, including developing stakeholder review and approval processes, milestones, and deadlines on large, complex communications projects such as the Builders of Berkeley and Homecoming. Works closely with supervisor to create project status reports for senior leadership and develop communication to improve coordination between teams as well as partner-clients. Works closely with supervisor, traffic manager, production manager, and managing editor to analyze and adjust schedules and assignments to take into account unanticipated priority projects, such as multi-million dollar rush proposals, in order to keep scheduled deliverables on track. Requests quotes, produces purchase orders, verifies credit card and financial paperwork, and other administrative tasks as needed. Prepares materials for select meetings, takes notes, and ensures follow up on assigned tasks.
Required Qualifications
Advanced project consulting and management skills to ensure operations are running smoothly and deadlines can be met effectively. Advanced skills in interpersonal communications to develop and maintain effective working relationships with a diverse staff and partner-client populations. Advanced skills in negotiating staffing resources and partner-client needs. Advanced skills in tracking and maintaining databases. Ability to synthesize and operationalize ideas. Required Strong skills in interpersonal communications to interact effectively with a variety of clients, support staff and vendors. Excellent team collaboration and interpersonal communications skills, including active listening, facilitation, conflict resolution, and political acumen. Ability to handle small to large multiple projects simultaneously.
Education
Bachelors degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
Salary & Benefits
This is a full-time (40 hours/week), non-exempt, 6 months contract position , eligible for UC benefits. The salary is commensurate with experience within the range of $27.20 - $35.51 hourly.
