University Development and Alumni Relations (UDAR) strengthens Berkeley's excellence through engagement with alumni, parents, undergraduate and graduate students and friends of the university, raising public awareness about Berkeley and increasing private philanthropy. UDAR provides overall direction for the campus's philanthropic advancement strategies and works to strengthen development with campus fundraisers.
Prospect Development Overview
Prospect Development supports fundraising efforts at UC Berkeley by providing customized information and analyses that contribute to building and maintaining donor relationships and strengthening connections to the University.
Position Overview
The Assistant Director of Prospect Analytics is a technical leader with a high degree of knowledge in the overall field and recognized expertise in specific areas; problem-solving frequently requires analysis of unique issues / problems without precedent and / or structure. May manage programs that include formulating strategies and administering policies, processes, and resources; functions with a high degree of autonomy.
The Assistant Director of Prospect Analytics applies extensive knowledge data mining, descriptive, and predictive statistical modeling strategies to segment, analyze, and rank prospect pools, and to answer specific business questions that create fundraising efficiencies and improve fundraising effectiveness. Uses a comprehensive understanding of the fundraising process and how prospect development services support the business functions and needs of Cal's development programs. Evaluates new tools, technologies, and data sources, and incorporates pertinent data in database by matching to prospect records. Results have major impact on campus-wide fundraising programs, resource planning, and fundraising decisions. Attends meetings and serves on internal/external committees as a campus representative and subject-matter expert.
Responsibilities
Functions as a lead and advises prospect development staff to oversee multiple analysis initiatives of high visibility and impact. Develops processes and methodologies to carry out complex analysis projects. Based on strong relationships with campus fundraising partners, as well as expert unit content knowledge, provides highly specialized analyses and reports using a variety of sources and strategies, and synthesizes large amounts of data for development planning and decision making.
Develops solutions to analytical problems involving the use of computer systems, information flow and architecture, creating specifications for complex prospect and donor reports to meet requirements.
Writes programs and reports in SQL and R, designing related databases to manipulate and transform data for statistical modeling, designing interfaces and content to aid with efficient gathering and reporting of data from/to fundraising staff.
Analyzes prospective donor information according to established statistical methods and presents results as reports, charts, tables, and other visual aids.
Recommends and implements improvements to documentation to continually enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of analytics work.
Ensures integrity of prospect data maintained in donor database. Develops and manages data quality measure. Serves as a resource to research teams for data quality related queries. Serves as consultant and trainer for effective use of the data and compliance with campus prospect management policies and procedures.
Required Qualifications
Advanced knowledge in prospect analytics. Demonstrated ability to apply knowledge and skills to recommend innovative improvements to highly complex and impactful initiatives.
Advanced skills in statistical analysis, predictive, and descriptive modeling.
Advanced skills in R, Excel, Access, and SQL.
Project management skills to lead a team, prioritize personal and team tasks and see projects through from inception to completion on schedule. Demonstrates adaptability and flexibility to effectively handle change.
Interpersonal skills to work collaboratively, coordinate, and integrate with others throughout the organization. Maintains rapport and professional relationships with peers, peers in the industry, multidisciplinary team members, and management.

Salary & Benefits
This is an exempt, monthly paid position, eligible for UC benefits.
This is a hybrid remote-friendly position up to 100%.

This range takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, analysis of internal equity, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be offered a salary at or near the top of the range for a position. Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience.
The budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position is $91,400-$111,250.
