Position Summary:

UAS Facilities Services is looking for a seasoned project manager or an eager learner to serve as a junior project manager. The Project Manager manages capital improvement projects for the University through planning, design, construction, and commissioning. This is a range recruitment, and may be filled as a Facilities Engineering Level 3 (Grade 80), Facilities Engineering Level 4 (Grade 81), or Facilities Engineering Level 5 (Grade 82), depending upon education and experience.

The specific duties vary significantly depending on the size, complexity and importance of the project, along with the experience of the project manager. We are looking for a leader with a strong professional demeanor and is interested in improving our facilities to support UAS’s mission of Student learning enhanced by faculty scholarship, undergraduate research and creative activities, community engagement, and the cultures and environment of Southeast Alaska. To thrive in this position, a candidate would need to take satisfaction in playing a supporting role to a team of Administrators, Faculty, Students, Staff, Architects, Engineers, and Contractors as they plan, design and construct new buildings or renovate existing buildings. The candidate would enjoy coordinating each team member's skills, weaknesses, motivations, and interests for the benefit of the University. Typical workdays are spent sitting behind a computer, answering emails, reviewing plans, tracking budgets, verifying work complies with scope and ensuring all team members are fulfilling their rolls to complete projects on time, within scope, and under-budget.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Four years of relevant project management experience or a combination of advanced education and experience in a related field.
A valid driver's license and clean driving record in compliance with UA Safe Driving Critiera is required.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelors of Science in any of the engineering / architectural disciplines.
  • Project management experience that includes managing capital improvement projects, including program development, project planning, design, bidding, construction, and warranty administration.
  • Knowledge of civil, structural, architectural, mechanical and electrical design drawings, specifications and construction practices.
  • Knowledge about project management, construction and facilities operations.
  • Architectural or engineering experience in producing construction documents.
  • Construction industry experience with quality control, field inspection or construction work.
  • Knowledge of Alaska procurement and contract laws.
  • Excellent communication skills and the use of modern technology.
  • Proficient in common software programs including excel and word.
Facilities Engineering Level 3 position will need to meet the minimum requirements.
Facilities Engineering Level 4 position will need to meet the minimum requirements and solidly meet three of the seven preferred qualifications.
Facilities Engineering Level 5 position will need to meet the minimum requirements and solidly meet five of the seven preferred qualifications.

Position Details:

This position is located on the Juneau campus in Juneau, Alaska. This is a full-time, exempt staff position complete with both a competitive salary and full employee benefits package. UA provides a generous compensation package that includes retirement options, annual leave, 12 paid holidays per year, tuition waivers for employees and family members, and affordable medical, dental and vision care coverage. New hires will be placed on the UA staff salary schedule, Grade 80-82, based on education and experience.
