Job Description
The University of Alabama at Birmingham seeks applicants for a midcareer or senior MD, PhD, or MD PhD investigator in the Division of Pulmonary, Allergy, and Critical Care Medicine, in the Department of Medicine; secondary appointment in other departments can also be considered. This position will develop a center of excellence focused in the broad areas of pneumonia pathogenesis, diagnosis, and treatment. Areas of emphasis including microbial (bacterial, viral or fungal) pathogenesis, innate or adaptive immunology, lung transplant infections, vaccine biology, and/or epidemiology/outcomes would all receive strong consideration.
The Division of Pulmonary, Allergy, and Critical Care maintains an active basic and translational research program focused on lung infections including an active biorepository linked to clinical data. Successful candidates should have a strong record of accomplishment with NIH or other federal funding, high impact publications, and a history of collaboration with other clinical or research faculty as well as a strong track record and interest in mentoring.
Rank and tenure status will be determined based on qualifications and experience. Clinical faculty are expected to provide outstanding care for our patients while helping train our fellows, residents, and students. Physician candidates must be board certified/board eligible in pertinent specialty with training in Pulmonary and Critical Care procedures. Research positions require demonstrable expertise/publications in cell and/or molecular biology and/or use of animal models relevant to lung biology research. The successful PhD or MD research candidates will be expected to maintain extramural grant funding and will have the opportunity to work in a dynamic multidisciplinary, research group environment. Salary is commensurate with experience.
