UAB Callahan Eye is seeking a Plant Operations Manager. The Plant Operations Manager reports directly to the Director of Hospital Operations. The Plant Operations Manager is responsible for Planning, Organizing, Directing, and Controlling the Plant Operations Department. This includes the repair and maintenance of the institution's buildings, grounds, and equipment, as well as the administration of a comprehensive preventative maintenance program, encompassing virtually all of the buildings, equipment, and physical plant systems throughout the institution.

This position is responsible for appropriate maintenance agreements, as well as the appropriate operation of the institution's computer-based Energy Management System. The Plant Operations Manager is a working management position, and it is expected that this position will be directly involved in maintenance activities. The Plant Operations Manager is required to prepare an annual budget, establish and maintain adequate control mechanisms to adhere to the budget, and the implementation of appropriate action to correct deviations from budget projections.

Duties & Responsibilities

• Properly repairs and maintains a variety of equipment, fixtures, and other items related to the overall building, equipment, and grounds.
• Tests and maintains all aspects of the Hospital's Fire Alarm, Suppression, and Control Systems.
• Tests and maintains all aspects of the Hospital's Steam Systems.
• Monitors, tests, adjusts, and repairs the Hospital's Emergency Generator System.
• Plans details of, and performs work procedures to affect the most effective, efficient, and safe approach to each assigned task.
• Analyzes drawings, diagrams, and other materials to locate, service, repair, and install equipment; and to determine a logical approach to troubleshooting and repairing problems.
• Plans and accomplishes work requiring a thorough working knowledge of plumbing and piping principles, specifications, codes, properties of materials, and principles of operation and application of equipment and components.
• Updates plumbing, piping, and other drawings, prints, and diagrams upon the completion of modifications projects.
• Demonstrates ability to function effectively in all areas of Plant Operations concerning installation, repairs, and maintenance.

Job Qualifications

• Five or more years of practical experience in building maintenance, refrigeration, plumbing, and electrical systems and a thorough knowledge of boiler equipment are highly desirable.
• Must be able to lift heavy weights.
• Supervision experience is required.
• Must meet qualifications to complete and manage the Statement of Conditions for the Joint Commission.
