Position Summary

The Communication Specialist is responsible for digital, print and social media marketing and communication activities that enhance the relationship between external stakeholders and the School of Dentistry. This position will create and implement an overall strategy to enhance the efficiency and timeliness of communication between stakeholders and the School through strategic communication methods including the implementation of innovative approaches to reach new and existing stakeholders. ln addition, this position is responsible for enhancing the School’s brand and prominence while maintaining consistent messaging throughout digital and print mediums that aligns with the style guide and brand standards of the University.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Support and promote the mission, brand, and reputation of the School of Dentistry and University of Detroit Mercy.
  • Assist in engaging all stakeholders in School of Dentistry news and events through various general internet, print-based, and social media outlets.
  • Establish communication tools for internal and external stakeholders to encourage regular and frequent information for reporting and sharing.
  • Procure design and manage content for social media accounts and news blogs interact regularly to increase engagement and presence.
  • Manage and design regular print communications for the School of Dentistry including but not limited to the Leading Edge magazine, Tip of the Leading Edge newsletter, brochures, and print advertisements.
  • Design and distribute regular digital communication and newsletters on behalf of administrative offices.
  • Use metrics to determine the effectiveness of communication strategies, tools, and modalities.
  • analyze and report outcomes to offices, areas, and departments as needed.
  • Manage on-campus digital signage monitors.
  • Work with the central campus marketing and public affairs staff to coordinate media program relations for selected events or activities.

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications

Education -A college degree
Employment -Five years to seven years (Equivalent combination of education and employment)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in graphic design and or digital art preferred. Communication, Advertising, Marketing, or related fields may be accepted.
  • Five to seven years experience in marketing, social media, web development, communications, or related field.
  • Knowledge of social media best practices, brand management, people skills, problem-solving, task management, time management, creative, and intuitiveness.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Computer skills: proficiency with InDesign, Photoshop, Lightroom, Illustrator MSOffice Suite, and social media management platforms. Experience with Cascade is preferred
  • Experience in developing print and digital content for organizational communication purposes
  • Experience producing and designing reports, newsletters, and annual publications 
  • Excellent written and spoken communication skills.

Physical Requirements

Job may require lifting lightweight objects (1 to 10 pounds) with no repetitive bending or stooping, and occasionally lift average-weight objects (1 to 10 pounds).

Work Environment

Regular exposure to favorable conditions such as those found in a normal office.

Salary/Pay Information

Commensurate with experience

Anticipated Schedule

Monday to Friday – 8.30 AM to 5.00 PM.
