Position Highlights
The Managing Director performs a senior role of management and leadership at SFA, with ultimate responsibility for the organization’s performance, overseeing all business operations, people and ventures. The ideal Managing Director is a strategist and an adaptive leader able to steer SFA staff, contractors, and programs while also implementing its vision, mission and long term goals. The Managing Director will report to SFA Executive Director and the SBS Associate Dean for Community Engagement, whilst working closely with other SFA staff and SFA Board of Directors.

Duties & Responsibilities

Job Duties:

  • Work in close collaboration with UA Public Folklorist, Executive Director, and program staff to implement SFA programming goals.
  • Support Executive Director and SFA Board of Directors on all fundraising and development goals, including individual donors, contracts, and grants.
  • Develop and execute SFA’s operational strategies in order to ensure organizational health, focus, and excellence.
  • Provide support to SFA staff so that they have accurate view of SFA’s internal strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats.
  • Adjust program strategies accordingly to ensure SFA’s resilience and growth.
  • Develop methods of management internally that foster adaptive leadership with staff.
  • Work with SFA staff to develop and support SFA’s organizational culture and foster advancements in social equity.
  • Prepare and implement comprehensive business plans to facilitate achievement by planning cost-effective operations.
  • Ensure company policies and legal guidelines are communicated and followed at all times.
  • Communicate and maintain trusted relationships with community partners, funders, artists, University liaisons, business partners and government authorities.
  • Provide oversight of fiscal control protocols.
  • Delegate responsibilities and supervise the work of a staff team providing guidance and motivation to drive maximum performance.
  • Act as the representative of SFA in ways that strengthen its profile locally and regionally.
  • Demonstrable experience in developing strategic and business plans

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

  • Passion, commitment and general knowledge of arts and culture field and/or other organizing and community-based initiatives (regional, statewide, or national).
  • Strong understanding of nonprofit finance and fund development
  • Strong understanding of non-profit management best practices
  • Excellent organizational and leadership skills
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and presentation skills
  • Outstanding analytical and problem-solving abilities
  • Have a strong commitment to social equity
  • Ability to travel regionally for convening’s and fund development
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree is required.
  • Minimum of 3 years of related work experience or equivalent combination of education and work experience required
Preferred Qualifications
  • Advanced degree in business administration or social/behavioral sciences or humanities.
