NewStart services include outpatient rehabilitation for individuals working towards recovery from substances and inpatient consultation for patients primarily detoxifying from substances.
The Manager – Addiction Services is responsible for planning, coordination, and oversight/implementation of clinical and operational functions for the NewStart Clinic and hospital inpatient Addiction Medicine Consult and Education Service (AMCES), across cost centers and sites. Critical functions include management of change, costs, productivity and employee, patient, and other customer satisfaction. This position must function effectively in an environment of dynamic change including changes in reimbursement, increasing patient and customer expectations, and varied staff recruitment and retention challenges. This position ensures that the department operations are fiscally responsible, regulatory compliant and best practice sensitive. This position is responsible for the management and integration of an interdisciplinary staffing model contained within their departments (i.e. nursing, support staff, therapists, providers). Development and implementation of programs may be multidisciplinary and/or interdisciplinary in nature. In addition, this position is responsible for participation in and the integration of UW/Meriter System of Care (SOC) strategic plans related to Addiction Services and develops annual goals for their respective team that align with Meriter, the UPH BH service line, and the SOC strategic plan and measures outcomes related to goals.This position has authority to organize, supervise and ensure staff development, professional practice and oversee staff conduct of all activities of direct reports. Ongoing contact with customers (physicians/patients) is maintained to ensure appropriate service design, delivery and response to complaints or comments. The position requires strong relationship-building and collaboration with other Interdisciplinary departments and leaders within UPH Meriter and all partners and strive for high quality outcomes in the area of clinical outcomes, patient and employee satisfaction.Operations Management:

  • Directly supervises staff, including but not limited to staff hiring/orientation, coaching and disciplinary as needed, productivity measurement, annual performance reviews and development/monitoring of individual staff goals. This includes development of orientation plan for new staff and assures that appropriate training occurs.
  • Oversees and directs scheduling and assignment of all patients and staff; monitors schedules and hours of operation to maximize patient access; responds to emergent scheduling needs as appropriate.
  • Develops and revises the annual budget for their assigned cost centers.
  • Reinforces UnityPoint Health - Meriter’s service expectations via ongoing coaching and feedback; acts as a role model in implementing Meriter/department vision; maintains a positive attitude and encourages staff to do the same.
  • Uses conflict transformation and problem-solving skills to assist staff in adapting to change.
  • Works with director to develop, review and revise policies and procedures relevant to areas of practice.
  • Conducts regularly scheduled staff meetings with team.
  • Participates in the development and utilization of necessary operational reports/statements to monitor financial success and identifies areas of financial improvement/expansion.
  • Is responsible for over-all day-to-day operations and functioning of the department and is the first point of contact for financial and patient experience issues.
  • Is the first point of contact for patient complaints and grievances for NewStart and AMCES
  • Manages all daily maintenance and vendor contracts and responds to department/site maintenance needs and initiates resolutions in a timely and appropriate manner.
  • Provides coverage for other departmental leaders as need arises, in conjunction and under the direction of the Director of Addiction Services and in collaboration with the Director of Behavioral Health Services.

Required Qualifications:

Masters degree in Human Services Related Field
Minimum of 3 years experience working in Behavioral Health and/or Substance Use Disorder/Addiction environment.
• Minimum of 2 years of progressive supervisory experience and direct staff management.
• Current state licensure as appropriate based on degree
• Valid driver’s license or other method of transportation to support multiple sites of operation.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs
• Excellent communication, interpersonal and conflict resolution skills
• Efficient time management skills and ability to prioritize job duties
• Ability to effectively manage priorities and deadlines
• Effective planning and organization skills
• Critical and effective problem-solving skills
Preferred Qualifications:
• Masters degree (or higher) in area specific to Therapy/Counseling or Mental Health
• Experience specific to Substance Use Disorder/Addiction services
• Experience with Electronic Medical Record (EMR)
• Budgetary accountability/experience
• Quality Improvement training
• Independent Clinical Supervisor credential through WI Safety and Professional Service.
