As a Senior Software Engineer for Alation Data Governance/Data Catalog at Optum Insight, you will play a crucial role in how our business leverages the Alation Data Catalog and Governance suite to and ensure the accuracy, integrity, and availability of our organization's data assets. Your primary responsibility will be to implement and manage Alation, a leading data governance and cataloging platform, to support our data governance initiatives. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including the product owner, data engineers, data scientists, and business stakeholders, to understand metadata requirements and drive data cataloging efforts.

You’ll enjoy the flexibility to work remotely * from anywhere within the U.S. as you take on some tough challenges. 

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Implement and configure the Alation data governance and cataloging platform to meet the specific needs of Optum Insight
  • Collaborate with business stakeholders, data owners, and data custodians to determine metamodel design components and changes
  • Design and implement data cataloging strategies, ensuring comprehensive coverage of all relevant data assets within the organization
  • Collaborate with data quality engineers and product owners to incorporate data quality capabilities into the data catalog
  • Provide technical expertise and guidance to business users and stakeholders on data governance, data cataloging, and data lineage
  • Monitor and assess data usage, access patterns, and data quality metrics to identify opportunities for improvement
  • Train and mentor junior data governance analysts and provide ongoing support to ensure effective utilization of Alation and adherence to data governance practices
  • Stay abreast of emerging trends and technologies in data governance, data cataloging, and metadata management to drive continuous improvement

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Management, or a related field
  • 5 years in data governance, data cataloging, and metadata management, preferably within the healthcare industry
  • Experience with implementing and managing Alation or similar data governance and cataloging platforms
  • Demonstrated experience in SQL and data profiling tools
  • Demonstrated understanding of data governance frameworks, principles, and best practices, including data lineage, data quality, and data stewardship

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Management, or a related field
  • Proven excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify and resolve complex data-related issues
  • Demonstrated communication and collaboration skills to work effectively with cross-functional teams and stakeholders at all levels
  • Proven self-motivated and results-oriented, with a proactive approach to driving data governance initiatives and delivering high-quality outcomes

California, Colorado, Connecticut, Nevada, New Jersey, New York, Rhode Island, or Washington Residents Only: The salary range for California, Colorado, Connecticut, Nevada, New Jersey, New York, Rhode Island or Washington residents is $85,000 to $167,300 per year. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, UnitedHealth Group offers benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements).
