United Way of Great Knoxville is Hiring a Community Schools Coordinator Near Knoxville, TN

At UWGK Community Schools (CS), our mission is to surround students with a community of support, empowering them to stay in school and achieve in life. Under general supervision, this position is responsible for the overall planning and implementation of the Community Schools’ Four Pillar model of integrated student support, shared collaborative leadership and practice, expanded enrichment opportunities, and active family and community engagement in strong collaboration and partnership with the school principal and other school personnel, community partners, and families at identified schools. This school-based position identifies and coordinates available community resources and develops new strategies and partnerships to provide additional support to students and their families through confidential, developmentally appropriate, culturally sensitive interventions, services, and supports. Will adhere to the principles and philosophy of United Way of Greater Knoxville (UWGK).
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO THE FOLLOWING:

Impact: Lead an inclusive strategy to transform systems, promoting self-sufficiency and equitable outcomes.
  • Assess community, school, and student assets and needs to develop an annual CS site plan that identifies goals and leverages existing resources to avoid duplication.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of school-wide and targeted strategies through a systematic data collection process and report progress to school leadership and community partners.
  • Manage a caseload of individual students identified with school leadership and staff and provide individual supports that meet the unique needs of each student.
  • Participate as a fully integrated member of the school faculty. Evidenced by serving on relevant committees to support the principal with strategic visioning for the school.
Employees: Create an exemplary and people-centric workplace through active engagement.
  • Maintain a positive image by understanding and demonstrating the UWGK CS mission, goals, and initiatives within the school and community.
  • Serve as an active member of the school’s Restorative Practices efforts in supporting the culture and climate of the school by coordinating community resources to create and enhance a positive learning environment.
  • Coordinate and direct volunteers, interns, and others working directly with the CS in compliance with UWGK policies and procedures.
  • Create opportunities to strengthen organizational culture and improve the employee experience.
  • Engage in various UWGK committees, workgroups, and activities to support the strategic plan and mission.
  • Implement and define opportunities to include DEI in all aspects of work.
Stakeholders: Maximize sustainable change through collaboration.
  • Work with school administrators, staff, teachers, and CS leadership to ensure a team approach to build upon existing strategies and leverage new opportunities to address students and their families academic, behavioral, social, emotional, and resource needs.
o Identify, convene, and facilitate a community-based site steering committee comprised of community representatives, family members, and school personnel. Utilize effective communication and relationship skills to liaise between the CS steering committee and all stakeholders.
o Support the site steering committee through a continuous process of assets and gap mapping, establishing priorities, securing partners and resources, and providing governance to Community Schools activities.
  • Provide all school supports to all students aligned with identified school goals.
  • Maintain frequent communication with building leadership regarding activities and progress toward goals.
Operational Excellence: Steward every resource to its highest and best use.
  • Implement and coordinate the annual site plan strategies, including periodic monitoring to assess impact and adjust services as necessary.
  • Build and maintain local formal and informal community partnerships to facilitate access to needed resources to meet the needs of students and families.
  • Guide and support the coalition of partners to ensure programs and services are aligned and focused on results relevant to the priorities established by the community-based steering committee.
  • Serve as a broader community resource to schools by sharing information and supporting school-focused activities such as school orientations, open houses, and family engagement.
Revenue: Cultivate revenue streams that leverage relationships and opportunities.
  • Support local and regional partnership and resource development by providing content for grant proposals, marketing opportunities, and hosting site visits as requested.
  • Manage an allocated budget and seek funds from other sources to ensure the financial sustainability of the Community School.
Minimum Education and Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree and 1-3 years of relevant work experience. Master’s Degree preferred. Lived experience relevant to this role will also be considered and can supplement instead of an educational experience.
  • Experience working with computerized software like Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, or similar programs.
We Offer
To model equitable hiring practices, UWGK strives to include a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role. The determination of this range includes several factors not limited to skill set level, experience and training, and licensure and certifications. To support the ability to reward merit-based performance, UWGK typically does not hire individuals at or near the top of the range for their role. Compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the current range is $45,000 - $65,000/year.
